HD just stopped working

I've a 8 month old Maxtor DiamonMax 22 500GB. The PC was on all afternoon, during a game it froze so turned it off. On reboot it does not see the HD. I've tried different cables and different slots but nothing. It's also not showing up in the bios. I can feel the disk spinning, any ideas what might be wrong.
 
Is your drive one of the affected? Maxtor hurt themselves a lot with that set, but before this were as reliable as any other I believe

Does it make any strange noises? I hope you have a backup
