HD projector experience.

For considerably more $$$.

If using for TV though...if he doesn't want to wear the bulb out for normal TV he'll need a CRT TV/LCD/Plasma, then the PJ for films. Wheras if he just has one for everything it's cheaper. And he sounds like on a budget.

2000-3000 hours for £200, or 40,000 hours for LCD backlight and probably the same for plasma.

I dont want to watch TV with one :) Movies and shows (off dvd box-sets, not tv) :)

Toshiba Mt-200 would be a good bet, or Epson TMP-10 (iirc?) or maybe Panasonic AE100. Trawl through ebay and avforums.com

Thanks, will give them a search :)

I recently picked up a Sanyo PLV-Z3 second hand with 280 hours on the bulb for £330. This is one of few HD projectors available at this price, plenty for 200-300 non HD though.

Bare in mind 3000 hours is 3 hours a day for nearly 3 years, so its not really that bad. Probably not a great idea for common TV use but for films/games thats fapping ages.

Wow, how are you finding it?

I've been iffing and umming about upgrading my projector to an HD one, but can't justify the cost yet, as my current 800x600 projector still has plenty on the bulb.... AND I bought a spare bulb at the time, to cover myself for years.

If I could get a HD projector for £330ish though, that would be worth getting, to plug my PS3 into. Not sure how much an 8 meter HDMI cable would cost? ;)

Guess I could sell my current NEC projector, with spare bulb, for a couple of hundred quid.

How do you find it with SD content?
Guess it wouldn't matter overly, as I'd use the PS3s upscaler for DVDs, but I'm interested nonetheless.

V1N.

With a 9.5ft throw at maximum lens zoom, the diagonal image would be about 83". Native HD is worth it, miles better, especially connected to a PC or console.

I have a maximum of 7foot between wall and projector. The projector would be on a shelf or fitting over my bed. The image would be projected on the wall at the foot of my bed.

Ive cut out string to the size that site gave me and put it on the wall and sat in bed. The size is very good.

I can see HD70 projectors new for £599, if theres anywhere else cheaper than that could you let me know through trust email? Cheers:)

Pretty awesome, I'll try and post up some pics when i get home from uni. I haven't had any SD content on it as yet, but im planning on a star wars fest sooner or later but that will be upscaled still (360). THe PQ is stunning, i always imagined projectors to be a bit wishy washy and perhaps, uncrisp. Fortunately i was very wrong, its amazingly crisp and the colour depth is awesome.

I've watched a few hd-dvd's on it along with plenty of .mkv files through dvi-hdmi and it is a godsend.

Sorry for the crap pics but you get the idea, dark+N95 = lose.

About 78" diagonal atm, thrown from, errm 2.5-2.7m ish. Could go about 6" bigger.

EDIT: Yes that is a ghetto screen, white fabric pinned to the wall :p.
EDIT2: Yes that is a giant transformers poster.

So i'm looking for this as a replacement for our main tv which is just a 30" crt monitor my budget is about £750

I will be connecting a xbox360, a pc and sky through it.

my choice is projector

or

Samsung Bordeaux PS42Q97HDX 42" HD Freeview Plasma TV

Yes I know I could go lcd but I refuse to buy an lcd tv till the makers put in place a zero dead pixel policy.

Thankfully my Optoma came with a zero dead pixel guarantee. Apparently DLP is less prone to dead pixels, or stuck mirrors to be more accurate. Also there's three times as many LCD sub pixels than DLP mirrors. If you do get a dead pixel it'll be more apparent than a TV as the image is that much bigger.

You're wrong. I've seen plasmas, LCD projectors and DLP projectors with dead pixels. It's the luck of draw.
True but plasma's and lcd projectors come with in a lot of cases zero dead pixels policy which was my whole point.

So back to my original question anyone got an answer :)

After owning a projector for 3 years now, it adds a massive dimension... even when you're watching old movies that you've seen before. Old movies that you never caught at the cinema you're able to almost completely recreate that cinematic experience (assuming your sound is also up to scratch).
