HD spining down and up?

Hi,

One of my HD's in a raid 0 set has started to spin down and back up, what's the usual cause for this?

Setup:

Intel P35 mobo IC9HR controller
E2140 @ 3ghz
4GB ram
8800GTX
2 x ST3250310AS in Raid 0
1 x 250gb
1 x 500gb
sound card

All powered by an Antex 480w psu.

I can hear it do it from time to time, almost sound like when a dvd drive re-seeks. Happens all the time but only really noticable in games where the game will freeze until it's up and running again.

Vista? Check the power options for the option that turns off hard-drives, and set it to Never. For some reason, under Vista, it'll constantly spin drives up and down, instead of doing the sensible thing and waiting for a while in case that drive is accessed again.

I thought you were going to have a similar problem to me. Mine's been spinning down and up over the past couple of days. It gradually gets more frequent, each time it does it it freezes the pc for a few seconds.

Eventually it gets to a point where it constantly non stop powers down and up and the pc is unuseable. Backing up my data now, think i'll have to RMA it
