Having a slight problem here with my old pc.
I dont know what the HD is but its 160gb and full to the brim. Last time i seen it was 400mb left.

My problem is, when i power on. It is VERY slow in loading W7. when it does load it will go black for a quite a while.Sometimes it will stay black for a few hours before the log on screen appears. When i do get to log on. It will log on in about 10 seconds then all the vibrations from the HD stops...and if i click anything nothing happens. Sometimes if i click start it will bring up the start menu and crash completely. Is this a HD problem not getting power, OS problem, virus ????

I am thinking about wiping this HD but there are a lot of pictures/videos i would like to backup. Thats if the HD isnt ******

do you think if i powered the pc on and leave it on the log on screen, i can open up its shared drive and take everything from there and put it on this pc? or do i have to be logged on?

Would sticking that HD in my current pc do any damage? would i be able to open it from "my computer"?

Thanks
MArc

I reckon there is probably sections of damage on the drive and it's causing repeated retries.

I'd be tempted to get the manufacturers diag tools and run that on the drive and see if that throws anything up.

if its old then replacing it is probably best, if possible use it as a 2nd drive with windows on a newer one, this should stop the crashing problem and think about backing up everything on it
