i got my first on launch day and thats the one that looks like a 2 pipe, and my second about a month later? (couple a weeks ago) which looks like the 3 pipe, the difference was noted from the side (through the case window, cos im a lazy arse and couldn't be bothered to open up and remove!)

Hmm...mine's definitely the 2 pipe version. Load temps (780 / 950) are about 95C :( and idle about 56C

Just had to add two fans to my case.

Oh and the 2900xt is most definitely NOT silent even at idle. It's the loudest fan in my system (4 orange yateloons in a p150) and my god is it loud at full pelt. Made me miss my 7900GTO.

Well ive 2 of the buggers in my case and at idle they ARE silent.

Must be a different cooler on yours then. at temps of 55 - 60 (idle) my fan's at 2000rpm (30%).

How is a fan that size spinning at 2000rpm going to be silent?

Even my Yateloons at 12v (1350rpm) are (barely) audible and thats a 120mm fan.

Just had a little fiddle with the fan speeds.

25% (1368 r.p.m.) is silent.

31% (2000 rpm) which is what the fan is at above 50C is definitely not silent.

Unless of course we have different interpretations of what silent is. I can't hear my pc when it's on - or at least i couldn't until i got the 2900xt.

i dont have a 2900xt but my x1950pro temps are 50c idle 81 load
EDIT* and thats stock i dont overclock it
