hd3870 512mb max core and memory!

Just curious, how you go about putting in custom cooling etc, and trying out new hardware installations? Do you try it out yourself?

Matthew

my girlfriend helps me because i can't use my hands so i tell her what to do, etc.. :)
for my cooling i have a double 14cm fan on the front of my case , 2x 12cm fans on the side of the case , 1 12cm on the back, Akasa AK-922 EVO Blue CPU Cooler .

also i do try new hardware installations and custom cooling when i build systems for people..

i hope this is what u was asking :D

does anyone no how to upp the speed of both GFX cards notice when i use riva tuner and upp the fan speed only my X16 pci e slot gets faster fan the other x4 pci e does not speed up
im on abit ip35 pro mb
thanks in advance!

ati tool and rivatuner dont do it for me.

Wouldn't have thought it was so hard to do..unless ati have closed that area off and/or not easy to break into.

since your running crossfire, i would suggest you just upgrade your coolers, then they will be able to run full 100% and be quiet too, accellero s1 is the best but it may be too big, the thermalright hr-03's can be mounted backwards, so for the first card they would be perfect and the second an accelero or maybe two thermaltake duo-orbs, or any of the zalmans that fit would be perfect

example

back panel and cpu
gap
HR-03
fan for hr-03
3870
gap
gap
3870
accelero s1
fans for accelero
gap

thats the way it would look since the heatsink is mounted backwards, would leave a lot of space free for airflow too, and the stock cooling on the 3870's is shocking the fans dont work and have serious problems, i dont know what amd were trying to do with the cooling on this one, they messed it up though, the cards run cool, but for them to cripple the cards by not allowing the fan to switch on is just stupid and not allowing it to speed up underload is just stupid

Got mine today cheers OCUK for quick delivery

After a little messing about i have my memory set to 1300 and my core at 820 atifact free havent tried higher yet, Gonne fit my accelero tommorow if it'll fit.

ok yeah sounds a very good idea :p

Would sort the computer out good and proper getting upgraded coolers on them.

Yeah I agree . I don't know what ati were doing with the fans and how they've set them on the 3870s.

Durso - memory set to 1300 - youve got another of the 3870s with good memory then.:p Let us know how you get on with the Accelero.

:p

the duo-orbs or the zalmans are the best for a crossfire setup, the hr-o3 and the acceleros are for if you really wanna push your cards to the max, my memory will only do 1156, which is nothing of an overclock, i dont think the ramsinks are attached properly, my accelero s1 and adhesive tape arrives on monday, but i have a maths exam for uni, next week, so i dont know if ill be able to test them until later on

I'll prob look at accelero s1 tonight and the others.

the accelero is the best, but its also the biggest, mind you its also the cheapest, in fact i know the perfect way of running two of them

hd3870
accelero s1
s1 turbo modules
very small gap
3870
accelero s1
two x 120mm fans cabletied to accelero s1

this would make the 2nd card extremely cool, and the 1st one should be very cool, the turbo modules take up hardly any space, but the 120 fans push a hell of a lot more air, i thinik thats the best option, if you wanna save money shop about, my accelero cost me less than a tenner

ok..if I get the Thermalright hr-o3

Will the HR-03 Rev.A fit it..and will I have to do any modifications ?

Thermalright hr-03

I like it that the fan sits at the back as the 2nd is so tight at the bottom in my p182 case.

its this one, the new one, yeah the heatsing can be put on back to front as it were, like i say these are large heatsinks, you also need to buy a decent 92mm fan for it, maybe heven buy a fan controller, aksa do some really good ones for less than £10 - they control 3 fans and have a couple of usb ports, so you could even control the fans from the front of the pc, like when your doing normal stuff stick them on low, then twist the knob before you start gaming to cool them under load

come in black or silver

that heatsink is very expensive though, there are cheaper options, once you weigh in the fact you need to buy 2 of them, 2 fans and a fan controller, you could be looking at near enough £80-£90, i think you would be better off with buying two zalman coolers with built in fans, would keep your costs below £50

yeah thanks funny enough just as I posted I noticed the gt version.
Well... I'm just planning to get the one hr-03 so I can have it on reverse.
Are there cheaper ones then that you can have in reverse?
