HD3870 Crossfire Replacement????

4x1066 RAM
2x HD3870 ATI

24" DELL Monitor

Considering replacements for my cards. The only reason is GPU memory.
a lot of the FSX add-ons is clearly going over the 512MB & fps getting lower & lower. Seems a lot of games now are reaching if not exceeding the 512MB mark.


£400 limit

Agree with the above its the best solution for your money. Also 2 4870 1gb or a 4870x2 would also do a good job and are a good bit cheaper.

True. But two in xfire gives good bang for buck imo as do two gtx 260, 4850's etc With a £400 budget I wouldn't 'skimp' on the gpu

Buyt does he need 2x 4870? Mine is fine at 1650x rez, so it all depends on needs...

Dunno, i run SLI 260GTX core 216s and i game at 1280x1024.

I know i have extreme overkill but im a framerate whore

Besides the framerate i get playing Crysis at 1280x0124 is awesome

Yeah I would maybe get just the one and see what the performance is like, then add another if neeeded. I think when the op gives a budget people try their best to to match it!

Funny! the 512MB version is the exact same price as the 1GB version.
BUY NOW before OcUK puts the price up.

Its 75Hz so its 75fps v-syncd but i dont use v-sync.

Most games except for Crysis are constantly over 100fps

Thanks for the feedback people. Ive been runnin Crossfire for over 5 years now. Never liked this 'X2' idea. Are the 4870 really that more powerfull that a 3870? Cos getting 2x4870 1GB should make big difference

if u playing fsx buy nvidia card, but then u cant sli . i guess 4870 1 gig cf is best bang for the buc for you then and a hope that ati will improve performance in fsx
