Ok, so i'm sure before when my card was under strain it would speed the fan up, doesn't seem to do it now, been doing some benchmarking and gaming but seems like the fan is staying at 40%.

Checked the CCC and its not set to manual.

Any ideas? I updated to 10.6 last week and since then I seem to recall it not speeding up no more so I have reverted back to a earlier driver and CCC.

Any ideas? I know I can just go and set the fan to manual speed but i'd rather it just speed up as and when it needs it.

Temps have been as high as 90 degrees C and still it wont go faster.

Thank you,
Gary

My HD 5770 keeps it's fan noise at about 40%, and it will go up to 50% or so when the temperature gets high (about 72 degrees), do you have it overclocked? or increased the voltage?

IF you install and load up MSI Afterburner you could use that to monitor your temperatures and fan speed, and even set a custom fan profile

10.4

Perhaps I am confusing myself, just I remember playing a game and the fan would make a horrible high pitched whine after some time...

Yet now that high pitched whine does not come unless I set the fan to above 80% on manual, I was thinking that a 90 degrees C it should be turning the fan speed up...

Perhaps its just a case of me not knowing what temperatures are needed to trigger the fan speed increments if you get me?

Sapphire.

Odd design, not the one that Ocuk are stocking.

What is the safe operating temperature of the card?

I think anything below 100 degrees would be safe, though 90 is starting to get hot, does your sapphire design have a full shroud and a fan in the middle?

Also if you try to set a manual fan profile in Afterburner, that might help, and if you have the card I think you do, the noise of the fan won't be a problem

On afterburner go to settings ---> Fan---> check the box and you should be able to edit the graph :D

Ah - so that tool there will raise the speed of the fan when the temp rises?

yup! just remember to hit the User Defined button next to the fan speed slider to enable your custom fan curve. One thing you have to remember with this though is that Afterburner needs to be running for it to work

Well its lit up now.

That seems to work, I have set the program to load when windows loads.

Went into a couple of games and the fan comes on and goes off like it should, dunno why it stopped doing it through the ATi CCC.

I couldn't overclock the card very far because it would not cool it, fan was just staying on 40% even at 930/1300

That seems really odd, I know the auto fan control on my one doesn't raise it much, but it does get higher according to temperature increases. What type of load speeds are you getting? A good thing to do is load Afterburner, play a game for a bit, and then look at the GPU temperature and see what your "max temperature" was

I know....

Least this brings the fan in now when it needs it, been playing MW2 for a hour and card been reading 92 C and the fan only at 40%

Had a little play there and could hear the fan kicking in at 70 degrees C.

That's good! I'm sure 92 is acceptable but the cooler the better! You could try overclocking through afterburner now and seeing how it affects your temperatures
