Good Morning :)

I have been given a WD Caviar Blue 250GB HDD. The only information on the drive is the brand and capacity. How do I go about finding out how much cache the drive has?

I am asking because I am about to buy another WD Caviar Blue 250GB with 16mb cache. For the sake of consistency I'd like to make sure everything tallies up.

Any help would be great :)

PS. Ive tried googling and got pointed to a command line instruction known as "hdparm". Reading further about this, it appears to be quite a dangerous command to run

Will have to check when I get back home as Im at work. Will the cache size be somewhere in the model number?

No - but you should be able to look up the specs for that hard disk from the model number on the WD website or via Google.

Or even better, find someone selling the same model of hard disk.

Matthew

P.S. Just done some snooping on the WD site

WD2500AAJS - 250GB, SATA, 8MB Cache
WD2500AAKS - 250GB, SATA, 16MB Cache
WD2500AAJB - 250GB, PATA, 8MB Cache

(looks like the last letter indicates interface, and the one before the cache size J for 8MB, K for 16MB)
