hi all,
just had a nasty windows install with files not copying accross and having to retry them, did this on my dvd and cd drive! then when i fianlly get one working i try to install games only to get the same problems.
now i have narrowed this down to two things:
-hard drive
-dvd drive or cd drive

anyone else had this problem, or anyone got any idea what part is not functioning correctly, its really frustrating :(

thanks in advance :D

you should check your hard drive cable and change if possible, if its a rounded cable it could well be messing around, try a straight ribbon cable. also check the cables and conections from your DVD/CD drives they may well share the same ribbon cable so share the same problem.

if you are overclocking, set your PC back to default speed to install OS just incase its memory or timeings.

1st cable check, both h/drive and DVD/CD roms ( try a diffrent 1 if you can)

you can always run memtest from dos before you install incase its a memory stick giveing error's.

also check PSU for fluctuation on the voltages, a PSU line on the way out can cause no end of problems.

and lastly can you list all your hardware, from PSU to CPU, ram ect!

perhaps try a diffrent sata cable, and sorry going blind didnt even look at your sig. unless its a bios issue, but worth checking your ide cable for your dvd/cd rom drives as a doggy cable can cause a bad install.

have you checked for bios updates?

well worth checking your dvd/cdrom ide cable, and also worth downloading the latest bios for your board.

also have a look on the asus forms for that m/board to see if there are any others with the same problems.

ok changed the cables still getting the same prob.
where do you think i should head next? surely both the drive cannot have died?
i'm thinking hdd?
could it be the motherboard?
is it worth plugging it into the secondary ide channel on the mobo?
thanks again :D

Memory. Virtually all 'the copy on the hdu and the cd do not match' errors are caused by faulty memory. Get memtest on it and I'm sure you will see errors.

If not the memory, the CD is dying...

thanks it is the memory got loads of failed to copy errors, annoyed but corsairs lifetime warranty is usefull in this case :D
right then time to inform ocuk,
at least i wont need to formatt either unless you would recommend it?
thanks a billion seems so obvious now lol
