I bought an Evo Labs 2.5" /3.5" SATA HDD Docking Station to transfer data from my old HDD to my Laptop HDD whilst I wait for my new rig. I plug in the dock, insert HDD, it is shown in My Computer as drive D: when I try and open it it says "Please Insert a Disk into Removable Disk (D: )"

Any ideas as to how I can access my disk please?

Thanks

Michelle

Yes tried it both ways. Off then insert. On then insert. Nothing happens, can hear disk spinning, windows beep to say device connected but nothing in My Computer for one drive, other drive shows up but no access.

Edit: New Hard drives install a device driver and wait to be initialised and formatted when inserted.

Are you sure it's disk "D".

If you have a CD/DVD drive in your laptop that would normally be "D".

Try putting one of your disks in the dock, opening My Computer and then look for another drive letter.

Is your old HDD no larger than 1.5TB - the maximum size supported.

I assume your laptop and old HDD are Windows disks.

If the above are true then it would seem the dock is not working properly.

You could try a different USB cable.

Old Disks Windows 7. Laptop Vista. Disks are 250 and 500gb just. Can't use another cable as I don't have another usb 3 - usb cable. Would it be because I have my windows installation on one?

Having a Windows installation on shouldn't be a problem.

You say you don't have another USB3 cable.

The dock is USB2 so what cable are you using to connect to your laptop?

You need a USB2 cable.

The Dock is USB 3, the only output is a USB 3 socket, its is plugged into my laptops USB 2 port that is ok no? it says backward compatible. That and my new drives work ok in it.

USB3 will work in a USB2 socket.

I thought the dock was USB2 because when I googled the name of the dock every page I found stated USB2.

The ones I found were model number E-DK02.

What's the model number of your dock?

Copying some data just now using my 2.5, my new Western digital hard drives that I just opened to test work also, My old drives the 250gb with my old windows 7 installation I get nothing, just hear the disk spin but nothing windows side. My old 500gb drive that was my back up and has all my photos etc, shows in My Computer, Shows in Disk Manager, but I cant do anything with it except change drive letters.

Thanks for your help, Surveyor

Should add my western digital (new ones) are 3.5"
