HDD for gaming.

What sort of difference did you notice C4EVA?

The random access on mine is nearly 3 times as quick as your bench's.
For an OS this is very important, it's also important for loading programs and games as many very small files need loading in most cases.

How fast does it take you to boot your OS (from the loading bar screen)? You're on XP right?

Access times don't give you better fps in games and so I agree that the money would be better spent elsewhere on a pc.

Totally disagree!! The Hd in today’s PC's is still the slowest component and considering it's being accessed a lot in windows and when loading/running programs the speed of it is very important imho.
All my computers use 15k SCSI (Maxtor ATLAS II's and Seagate Cheetah 15K.5's) and whenever I use a friends, colleges ..etc normal computer (7.2k) the difference is massive and very frustrating.

People also think that SCSI is expensive but if you shop about you can get some great deals, my first 15K U320 setup cost about the same as a 74Gb Raptor for both the controller (Inc cable) and a 36Gb Atlas II :D

It's by far the slowest component, but the performance difference upgrading from a 7,200RPM to a 10kRPM drive in gaming pales in comparison to upgrading from 1GB to 2GB or more of RAM, or spending the money on a faster CPU. Don't forget that for gaming, once the loading's over, the RAM, CPU and GPU are far more important for performance than HDD speed.
