I'm looking at buying a system which has a 1TB SeagateBarracuda HDD. I can upgrade to the 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda for £6 extra - would the extra space slow my system down at all? The system in question will be the Ultima Dreadnought

Also, the Samsung SpinPoint F2 EcoGreen 1.5TB can be had for chaper than the 1TB Barracuda? Is this a better option? Indeed if the size upgrade were detrimental to the speed of the system, the Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II is cheaper than the 1TB Barracuda offering.

Incidentally, Custom PC magazine uses the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB in it's "performance" and "crazy but cool PC's", and don't mention the Barracuda.

Thoughts please?!

As far as I'm aware, the 1.5tb and 1tb Seagate 7200.11 drives should both pretty much identical in terms of speed. The F2 Eco will be slower, as its 5400rpm while the Seagates are 7200rpm.
The F3's have a great rep. I have one in my second pc and its faster than I expected. Plus, they're very quiet.

Personally, I would say go for the F3 if you dont think you'll use the extra space. If you think you will go over 1TB in the near future, get the 1.5TB Seagate 7200.11

Doh! I never noticed that the F2 Eco was 5400 RPM - schoolboy error!! That's that one out then lol.

I'm just looking at future proofing. Now I know the !tb and 1.5TB Seagate are identical in speed terms, I was wondering if the extra space on the drive would slow the computer down - purely as there's more space for the system to look into.

The issue with hard drives even if they are not the fastest thing on the block in 3 years time you can always use it to store your pictures and music on. Personally I would go for the larger one.

That's where I'm thinking of going with this Gib - an extra 500GB for £6 seems rude not to go for it :)

It was really gaming performance I was worried about; but I wouldn't think it would have too much of an adverse effect on speed.

I would get something cheap like the X25-V 40GB for the time being if I were you, get used with it and then later get something better + priced right.
