HDD Just Caught Fire!

sorry to hear about the HDD catching fire, never heard of this before but anything is possible with PCs lol.

hope there was not any data you needed on it.

got an excuse to get a SSD now :)

hope you get it sorted soon, if you look about their might be some easter deals on a ssd

I had just wiped it and reinstalled Windows the other days so there was nothing on it. My externall HDD had everything though :(

Ouch, what make was it?

It was a Western Digital Blue 1TB

Drive is probably fine, just needs a new controller board.

I'd contact the manufacturer and link them to this thread!

How would I go about linking them to the thread? Just contact online support and send the link?

If you want the best chance of recovering your data, take pictures of both sides of your harddrive and both sides of the PCB then post here.

Otherwise, if you just want a replacement, contact WD.

I'd say you'd probably need a PCB and to transfer your existing ROM to the new PCB, which is going to involve some delicate soldering. But that's just speculation, the forum I linked you to will be more knowledgeable.

Thanks I'll check out that link now.

There was an actually fire when it was on haha I'll power it back up if you wanna have a look :p

I've got an NZXT HALE 90 650w 80 Gold Plus only a couple months old :/

I had a similar problem a few months back or so similar issue here.

Though this drive had been inside the PC for well over 5 years I think constant changing of the sata connector over the years might have caused this issue. I was lucky I was sat there with the side open when I turned it on because I usually turn it on and just nip back out.

This was on a old Seagate 750GB drive and I was lucky to have another one which was dead sith the same PCB which I just changed over and it worked perfectly fine.

Is it under warranty? I'm amazed this hasn't been asked yet :p

Was thinking that myself haha Its about a year old ill have to check the company I bought it from and find out.

Just opened a support case on Western Digital, hopefully they replace it. Only had 26 days left of my warranty. Lucky it happened now than later I suppose
