hi all im a new member to this forum so please be gentle with me,
i cannot for the whole world find my 5tb hdd in device manager you can expand to show all and when i click on it i get

Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. not only have i reconnected ive also replaced the sata lead please can anyone help me.
many many thanks

Is this an external, or internal device, the size makes me think external, but the sata lead internal?

Is it a new device you added recently, or an existing device?

If it is an internal device, have you tried changing the power cable too?

I'd still try swapping the power cable or using another connector on the same cable chain, because it is possible that the connection is not secure, or weak, either on the power or the sata cable. You could have a look in event viewer, for the entries around the time you boot the pc and see if it reports any drive or I/O errors. I assume the SATA cables are modern Sata 3 compatible cables that came with a motherboard?

You're aware that new drives are initialised through disk manager and not device manager, correct?

i assume this drive is a standard drive and doesn't require a driver?

Anything in the BIOS that might be interfering, e.g. unused SATA controller or port disabled?

If you have multiple SATA controllers (usually indicated by the SATA ports being different colours), I'd try the other.

Tell us something about the HDD as 5TB internal drives are not exactly common. Make, model and size? Is it new? Has it been shucked from an external drive?
