HDD Not found by windows

does windows installer see the hdd on sata2 port?

the first one you mentioned is the ahci driver...you would need to have ahci set in the bios first to use this...i would only use it if it were a ssd you were installing on to....

windows should see a sata3 capable hdd thats plugged into the sata2 port (there backwards compatible) once windows installs..... install the chipset drivers from the mobo cd and every other relavent driver you need including the sata3 driver(which will be on the mobo driver cd)do a restart so windows can see all the new drivers then shut down, pull the power and change the hdd from sata2 to sata3...the hdd will now run windows on sata3

Will try this now...

sounds like you may have a duff drive craig

do you have another pc you could try it on?

what game are you going to see? im a hearts supporter myself

were chasing celtic for 2nd spot just now :D

Southampton fan, we just beat Huddersfield 4 - 1 :)

I'll try the HDD in an external enclosure.

Another thing I should mention is, while going through the Windows installation, it is really slow

what exact model is the drive craig?

try it in an external on a different machine...maybe if you could get it formated windows

will see it....if it doesnt come up right away look in control panel/administrative tools/computer management then on the left hand side click disk management....

if its not in there its duff for sure

Ok,

Before I do it, it's asking for the Allocation unit size.

What should I select?

512 bytes
1024 bytes
2048 bytes
4096 bytes
8196 bytes

16 kilobytes
32 kilobytes
64 kilobytes

just tell it to format on whatever the default setting is by windows...in other words when it comes up dont change anything and tell it ok to format

ok so once youve done that take it out and try it in your machine with a w7 install...no reason now it wont see the drive.. try it in the sata 3 port if it doesnt see it try it in sata 2 and do what we discussed earlier which was sata 2 port install, then drivers (chipset first) restart to make sure it does all it registry changes then shut down change to sata3 port and hopefully its good to go

Hopefully it will work after this :D

This formatting is actually taking a really long time. Is it worth cancelling it, and checking the 'Quick format' option?
