HDD overheating?

I just put together a basic-ish system (E6320, onboard GFX, DVD-RW) with a Deskstar 250GB drive in.

When I first started it it worked fine, everything loaded up and I installed vista, after about an hour the it started taking a long time to load anything up and eventually blue screened on me. Restarted the PC and got the message "boot drive unavailable, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I then tried reinstalling Vista, it got to 66% unpacking then decided the boot drive wouldn't let it go any further.

Although the rest of the PC is pretty cool (both indicated in the bios and to touch) the HDD was actually hot to the touch. I am just wondering if the issues I had above could be due to overheating, other than that the HDD seems to be fine, no clicking or such like that.

Thanks.

HDDs today, are given a temperature ceiling of either 55c or 60C (depending on the HDD) for operating, so anything over these are definitely suspect.

I presume it is being cooled adequately...

Try running the manufacturer's diagnostic utility on it, to see if that reveals anything. :)
