When oh when are they likely to come down? I have an SSD with a 640GB 54000 RPM drive which I really need to upgrade to at least 2TB.

I noticed prices are coming down but I didn't check how much the prices were before the problems in the Far East.

How much would I have been looking at paying for a 2TB 7200RPM drive prior to this?

Purchased 3 of the Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM before the flooding mess at £62.49 ex VAT and they are now £141.66 ex VAT £169.99 inc VAT. So as you see they are over double still.

I'm annoyed too, but as we all know it was a natural disaster and people are still suffering from it out there, but I also have a niggling feeling retailers and suppliers are pushing the prices up because they feel they have an excuse and can get away with it. My advice is shop around and look for deals, sometimes I have seen drives back to the original prices at sale times or some other special discount retailers have running.

I have some programs (i.e. steam apps folder) and others which would probably benefit from the increased RPM. Only have OS and BF3 on the SSD at the mo. Everything else on the old HDD.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm going to hang on for another 6 months. I need to pick up at least 6 3TB drives, 4TB are way too expensive as will 5TB when they hit... I'm hoping 3TB drive prices dive down to 80 or so. I may be too optimistic :)

Cheapest I can find a Seagate Barracuda anywhere is around £92 inc VAT. So this isn't too much over the pre-flood price is it?

About £15-20 over? Or more?
