Hmm what to get...

1) Samsung spinpoint f1 1gb X2 Raid

2) Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB

3) SSD for my main drive + another drive for storage

the first question :what performance boost will i get by raiding two sammys?

the second question : I have heard a lot about the Samsung spinpoint f1 failing on these forums

the third : if you were me what option would be best, i do loads of 3D work as i work in the games industry so it needs to be pretty fast and responsive.

cheers all

2x500GB or 3x320GB WD RE3 RAID0 (3x320 will be faster).
Plus at least one and preferably two WD 1TB Green drives for backup/storage.

There are as many options/opinions as there are users of these forums. Have to assume you know what you're doing in regards to safety of your data as you're in the business, but SSD is a bit new tech yet, worthwhile trying if you have the cash to play with as there are big potential gains to be had, but if you want tried and tested I'd go for the above. If the 1TB workspace is not enough then use larger drives in the array, but you'll need more backup space too.

F1s are a bit flakey IMHO, some people have reported no problems while others have reported a string of failures. Not the ideal tool for putting into a RAID0 I would have thought, especially if your data is business critical rather than playtime. Using just 2x1TB Spinpoints in RAID0 with no backup drive (option 1) is a disaster looking for somewhere to happen. Option 2 isn't much better but at least you don't have RAID issues. Option 3 isn't going to give you much (fast) workspace.

yes i was not planing on getting 3 separate drives really, i know it will be mega quick.
this is my home PC so its not that business critical just need somthing nippy to work on if i want to take work home + do my own projects i regularly backup on an external and with online storage space. As you say SSD have big pluses but in my eyes are massively over expensive for very little space atm, games have massive installations these days too so a 64 or 128 gb drive is a bit to small.

i think a fast seagate will be the best for the moment and get some SSD when the capacity of the drives are better

anyone else have any thoughts, i have considered a raptor but again hardly any space and might as well get a SSD.
