HDD shows in device manager but no where else?

have you given it a lettering/drive name

edit: oh wait you cant see it in computer management either?

When blky says computer management, he doesn't mean "My Computer", incase you're assuming that is what he means.

Bring up a run box, then type in "compmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and hit Ok. Listed down the lefthand side you should see "Disk Management", which looks like this..

If you were indeed referring to the disk management tool already, then disregard the directions above.

Only active disks will show in the top view of Disk manager, go down in the lower part and you should see a disc 'n' with no partition to the right. You need to create an active partition.

Andi.

Here's the problem guys

The drive in question is the Fujitshu HDD, it's visible in device manager as a hard drive but there's nothing for it in disk manager.

I've done a re-scan and a refresh in disk manager but Windows still doesn't pick it up :(

Try right clicking on the drive in the device manager and assign a drive letter to it. See if that does anything. :)

Is the drive already formatted and assigned a letter? If so it might be conflicting with one of your current drives.

Can you plug it into another computer and format it but don't assign a letter then plug back into your pc and see if it picks it up in disk management.

Still nothing... When I installed Windows 8 I deleted the drive in the select drive to install part of the installation.

Reckon I've completely blanked it

tried different sata ports?

maybe installing latest intel rapid storage drivers might help pick up the hdd (intel boards only)

if its sharing the same drive letter as the os hdd then it wont showup

Sorted :D

Had to use partition Wizard to delete the 2 partitions that were on there and then set it up as a new disk with a new designated drive letter.

There was a 100Mb partition on there that was in use preventing it to be seen by Windows.

Cheers to all that chipped in to help :)
