Currently on a 100gb partition and moving to a 128gb SSD

Could i get away with win7 backup restore or (ideally not) a dull reinstall ?

Is the rest of the hardware the same. Is so you should be ok ghosting the image, though its always recommended to do a clean installs.

I'm moving from a SATA 3 Raptor to a SATA 3 128Gb SSD tomorrow (worried if I'll notice anything on my SATA 2 board) but I've read nothing but recommendations to install a fresh copy of windows on a new SSD.

If you really need to restore an image onto an SSD, I know people have managed it so it is possible, just not recommended.

Clean install is the best bet however you could have a look at Paragon - Migrate OS to SSD.
