So ordered a monitor through a competitor and after waiting nearly all day for it as it was loaded on to the van today, I left for a friends birthday fully expecting it to be delivered on monday...Well I checked the tracker just to see if it went back to the depot and it has apparently been 'delivered to the customer'. Considering nobody was home and we left at 20:30 I find that hard to believe. No note left either to say that it was with a neighbour (who are away anyway). I have no idea where it could be tbh, guess I'm going to have to randomly knock on peoples doors down my street, ridiculously shoddy to say the least :mad:

It's no better if you order from OC, they use the worst courier service I've ever seen. Three little letters that stop me ordering anything time critical.
 
you sure it was your tracking number for your item? i can't remember exactly how they operate but i know in past i've been given tracking numbers to then enter them too early and it says it's been delivered because the info is for previous customer still.

also although the employee respresents the company i'm sure this isn't how hdnl actively run the business and it's probably one of the bag ones. don't blame them too much yet, wait and see how they deal with the issue
 
Amazing, cos HDNL where i live are flawlessly good....

Infact the only courier that was crap was AmTRAK and only cos it was subcontracted and i assume they dint really give a crap.
 
With DHL @home, or whatever it's called now, "delivered to customer" means it has been delivered to the person who is going to deliver it to you. It could be the same for HDNL? They do use 'normal' people for deliveries. Soooo many times have I made the mistake of waiting in a day early as it says "out for delivery".

It still suprises me now, when I've been on the lookout for a delivery van all day and after finally giving up the parcel turns up with someone in a regular family car. Have to admit though, the ones in Cambridge I've had so far are pretty cool, I was at work once and the woman delivering came back 3 times during the day to see if I was in.
 
HDNL around here are great! There is a depot not too far away (not sure for how much longer though), and the guy who delivers around here knows that our inlaws live in the next village, so will try there if we arent in!
 
every parcel i get from hdnl has been found inside the recycling wheelie bin, no knocks or notes, go to put the rubbish out and its sitting in there getting damp, i don't like them, because of them i had to put a sign on it saying "This is not a post box!! please knock the door!!" lol
 
HDNL lost my netbook and claimed it was delivered (probably nicked I'm guessing). Lucklily the shop sent a free replacement straight away.

Pretty sure as the tracking number only became active a day after I received the dispatch email from where I ordered it.
 
Of course both HDNL and DHL national (not international) are now owned by one company, effectively the infamous Barclay Brothers. They are ditching BOTH names altogether due to customer perception, and having a 'low/no publicity' changing to Yodel (with mental coloured vans etc).

Naturally they think a new brand name will be easier on their marketing team then pulling the brand names they have up from the gutter .. the marketing team is also trying 'new, young, funky, cool' corporate strategy rather than the traditional logistics 'stable, professional, everyday workhorse' gig as used for years by all the big players -- which is a big marketing risk in this sector but - I dunno - I think it will work .. what about you?

DPD? They are great. I had a 38Kg parcel delivered from Germany to my hands in 36 hours. With no extra handling fee's that some couriers have added in the past. Can't fault them.

Aye. They don't get paid unless it's delivered.
 
3 best (IMO of course!) DPD, UKMail and UPS. HDNL, DHL are poor.
DPD is the outsider, and would happily choose the other 2 over them. Use ukmail and ups at least once per week.

i think a lot of people will notice these new vans, though what differnce it makes i don't know as i'd have thought a large part of the work comes from business to customer rather then customer to whoever.

And they only get 75p a parcel.

Major advantage though, they can choose EXACTLY

1) Area (although the smaller area they choose to cover, the less parcels they'll potentially be able to do)
2) How many parcels they want
3) Exactly which days they want to do it, or which hours of which days.

It's the ultimate flexibility (much more than a normal part time job) for people with some spare time just to make a few quid.
 
Ah, good courier/bad courier thread. They all have their faults. I'll admit that I have my doubts about DHL@home/HDNL/Yodel delivering out the back of cars, but it seems to work providing you have an easy to find address.

My parents place, on the other hand, seems to stymie delivery companies. They've even watched couriers drive past on the way to the wrong address.

PS - Yodel - Wonder if they nicked that one from UPS. Anyone remember the ad? 'HELLO!!!' :)
 
Urgh the worst delivery company ever. I've never had a problem with any others but these guys are making me rage. "Item is on van for delivery. Item back at depot. Item is on van for delivery. Item back at depot".

Obviously they understand the part where you get paid, but not the part where you get your delivery actually delivered. I was in the whole time both days. Amazon need to drop them fast or give you the option to choose Royal Mail.
 
I once ordered some shirts from a store in London and it was delivered by HDNL; the package was randomly chucked over our side gate without a note saying it was there, found it a few days later.

Definitely less than impressed with them.
