hi
Sorry if this as been asked before
I get that cheaper 4k HDR tvs tend to not display HDR correctly
I have been told to look for a HDR 10bit panel, but then reading some people say some HDR 8bit panels display better than a 10bit panel

When looking at specs of tv's it will just say uhd premium, HDR etc

How do i know HDR wise what im getting?
Asking all this in reference to the xbox one X
Want to use this for forza 7, gears, metro etc but also for 4k blurays

I want a good experience without breaking the bank

The more you spend the better (up to a point).

What sort of budget do you have?

AV forums has the best TV section for research purposes, but some of the regular posters are pretty toxic.

I have budgeted about a grand for xbox one x and tv
So about £600
But for me its knowing when looking at specs what to look out for because spec sheets just say "HDR - Yes"

At 600 it's likely going to be an 8bit panel, so not full HDR. HDR needs a proper 10bit panel. I had an early 4k LG LCD (2014) that was advertised as 10bit, but it was actually 8bit according to the AVR.

You really need around 1k or so for a decent spec TV.

Hisense might do a 10bit for cheap, but those sets come with their own problems.

A few months back the only 'real' HDR panel close to your budget was something in the Samsung KS7000 series, I think. As noted above, the LG ones of a similar vintage were being sold as 10 bit panels, but were actually 8 bit with dithering.

If you want quality then you need to pay for it. I'd be looking at Samsung and at least an 8 series. Last year the 7 series was the one to get but I think Samsung might have wised up which is why I'm saying go for at least an 8 series out the 2017 models.

is it the good time to buy an xbox one s or wait for scorpio ?
I had read hardware specs for scorpio
which suggested it cannot drive 4k at 60hz for forza driving games just 30hz, so do you have to back it off to 1080p sdr(ie not hdr) @60hz instead ?
but I am not into games just hardware architecture ;)
- will xbox one s prices reduce too, on its Nov release.

best to wait for Scorpio but it's meant to be a lot more expensive. i imagine xbox one s prices will reduce slightly but not by much as it's not a direct replacement. they will decrease with time as they naturally do.

Im off work due to illness at the moment, and only getting esa so saving isnt really an option
Sold a few figures/vinyl and raised a fair bit which is where my £1k came from

They showed last night xbox one x/scorpio can natively play forza 7 at 4k/60fps

Thats what i want to play

Spending £1K to play 1 game is excessive. Why not just get the scorpio, forza 7 and use whatever you have atm until you can afford a proper 4k screen.

No i meant i want to play games like forza at 4k/60fps
I also want to play gears 4 (already own), gears, metro etc
Whilst im off work gives me something to play
