HDR - how do i know what im buying?

Asking all this in reference to the xbox one X

Ok - I misunderstood your original post and thought you were talking about xbox one s,
so you are planning to get a X/scorpio £400, in November and are just getting the tv now ,
and may use a different console in the meantime

I currently have the xbox one S and getting the xbox one X in november yes!

If i could get a decent tv now then so be it, or should i wait it out until closer to the X release date and hope a better TV as dropped in price?

Its just whether or not i get proper HDR etc, never seen a 4k tv in action, so wouldnt know the difference between true HDR and lesser HDR

one option ? what is everyones opinion of hotuk listed deal

LG 49UH850V Smart 3D 4K Ultra HD HDR 49" LED TV £599.00 Currys
Currently TopCashBack are offering 10% on LG TV purchases at Currys (so £49.91 available as it's minus vat) for the next 4 days, so that gets it down to £550 eventually. Not as cheap as it got in Feb, but I don't have a time machine

maybe 8 bit+2 , but it is a good price and IPS screen (so good viewing angles like my older 1080 ips Panasonic)

EDIT: LOL
Yeah i have done that on mine and same as yours, small steps between colours, however i have tried a different test, cant remember the name atm, but that proved to be much better, im still on the fence as who to believe as LG uk have stated 4 times now ive spoke to them about it being 10 bit, they have it on their website, also on their youtube videos, and also a uk review on s21.com stating it is a 10 bit screen, but then on the other hand us sites claim it to be 8 bit, and then you have these gradient tests. Whos brave enough to open one up and have a look at the panel to find out for definite lol

If it's so hard to tell whether it's 8 or 10 bit then it doesn't really matter does it? If we have to stare at test images rather than watch movies.

I've had an IPS edge lit LG with local dimming,

if you have money for oled great, but the VA have poor viewing angle and colours are shot 30degrees out - horses for courses
I never watch tv without having a background light on, so a panasonic ips has been fine
(... tv content not absorbing enough - need to multi-task - but I concede games maybe more abosrbing)

that is a very good TV i have the UH750V so this should be even better. it's also got one of the best built in speakers i've ever heard if not the best.

the only bad thing i can say about the tv is that the glass front panel is extremely reflective (same issue as plasmas) so you need to know how to treat a tv with a glass front panel. it's a premium finish. any light source from the front will cause reflections.

It's 8+2.

I've had an IPS edge lit LG with local dimming, it's not a good choice if you use the TV in a darkened room. Woeful blacks.

i have zero issues and i've got a top of the range panny plasma in the bedroom. i do use the pro setting and switch between dark and brightened presets depending on natural light.
