Hmm I'll have to tell the women dominated place I work at to stop talking about lampshades and grandchildren.

As the boss I guess she is entitled to run a place how she sees fit. As a human she's a tryanical ahole.

Also, I went to her house in Amsterdam, not as plush as expected for someone on her wages.

To be clear, none of what you're talking about is about feminism - some is just self-serving narcissism as you've all pointed out, some is toxic and dishonest practices of post-modernism, some is leftist ideology - but none of it is about helping women.

I'm perfectly happy in my career dominated by guys (tech) with them talking like guys, about guys topics.

Like this forum - have I ever felt 'excluded' because you all talk like blokes? Of course not, it's ridiculous. Because I've done blokey subjects (eg engineering), do I feel I was somehow blocked by other guys (don't be stupid, if anything it was the opposite)....

But start talking absolute tripe like the 'patriarchy' that there's not a single shred of credible evidence to it's existence and I get very irritated fast.....

Well that's another thing that's silly, imagine if that was the other way around!

I get really annoyed at women who try and push these sorts of agendas in teams I'm in - it really does kill all the banter, jokes and enjoyment in teams....

I love it when blokes banter, they're much funnier than women!
 
This is like when they got a "Change Manager" in to a previous company I worked at and gave her an office right next to where all the ops/ASP/cloud guys worked... i.e. mostly the more blue-collar/non-grads IT types who follow basic flow charts and check on servers all day.

First, an e-mail came around about swearing and unprofessional language in the office, (it was sent to the whole office so some people were like WTF???) then when their team leaders & managers got a grip of that this new "Change Manager" woman had made more complaints about noise and another e-mail got sent around about talking too loudly in the office, a second e-mail came around about that too... in the end the office manager had to move her to another office away from that part of the floor and the guys were given the nod that they could ignore the previous e-mails.

I think she resigned after a few months and it's not clear what she even did in the time she was at the company aside from coming around for 1 on 1 chats with everyone and then presumably knocking together a PowerPoint presentation on facilitating synergy and change and stuff to the execs. Probably a prime candidate for an Elon Musk type to ask "what did you get done this week"?
 
I didn't like this thread too much 3 years ago and now, to misquote The Wonder Stuff, I like it even less.

I guess post-modernism would be my biggest gripe and all the fraud it spreads - as the above post demonstrates....!
 
What kind of fraud has post-modernism spread, katie279? That sounds worrying.

I assume we're okay with post industrial malaise? (I am, it is fine).

This is quite the tricky pancake!
 
The major groups at work are football chat group than endlessly construct their best ever squad (including retired players) also the carry on humour group, if you throw in some block universe chat it always falls on deaf ears

Good lord, well without going through the whole of Derrida and co's nonsense, the usual definitions are ropey enough:
  1. there is no objective reality
  2. there is no scientific or historical truth (objective truth)
  3. science and technology (and even reason and logic) are not vehicles of human progress but suspect instruments of established power
  4. reason and logic are not universally valid
  5. there is no such thing as human nature (human behavior and psychology are socially determined or constructed)
  6. language does not refer to a reality outside itself
  7. there is no certain knowledge
  8. no general theory of the natural or social world can be valid or true (all are illegitimate “metanarratives”).
And you can see how all of these are being used to manipulate societal positions, scientific endeavour etc all over the place
 
This is understandable. People these days are becoming more tribal and agressive about their beliefs, so I guess it could cause division in the workplace.
We are not allowed to talk aboout politics at work

Thank you.

Bear with me if you don't mind too much. Are these 'usual definitions', albeit ropey, post modernism fraud outcomes themselves, or is the fraud just post modernism? Sometimes I believe it is both, even if Jacques Derrida says otherwise.
