Avast can and does skip a ton of files because there's no point in scanning them, such as files with valid digital signatures from the likes of Microsoft etc, if those files were infected and thus altered then the signature wouldn't be valid any more and would have course then be scanned.

Downloaded the 64 bit version of MSE, and found nothing Quick about version 4 beta, and that was doing a quick scan.

what does that have to do with anything if i thought i had a virus the last thing i would do is a quick scan! full scan all drives and media

Not really observing much difference so far. I notice there are fewer options in settings though.
