Heads Up! - Paypal Changes.

You get section 75 credit card protection, something you don't get if you use PayPal. This is always, always superior to PayPal's whims.

under which situations do you get that ?

Do you mean if you give ebay a debit cards number ? and, ebay, is then responsible to deliver that protection, or, do you have to use their credit facility

If you give them a credit card, doesn't it become like amazon where, since amazon is an intermediary, at least for 3rd party sellers/dispatchers, you do not have those rights.

I've not experienced problems with paypal, as a buyer, anyway, and, the free returns, has been useful for shoe/clothing purchases.
It looks like all sellers will be forced to move soon, and I can't find a way of just selecting sellers offering paypal in the interim.

Deleted my Paypal account last month, there is no reason to have one now that ebay doesnt require it. They are putting themselves out of business with stupid policies.
4 months 0% over £99 and free return shipping is enough for me to keep using my PP account.

Using PP for convenience more than anything here, happy with 2FA and prefer that to giving out my card details to all and sundry. Also consider it an extra 'layer' of security, again for the previous reason.

Also, Nectar AMEX on PP means we buy everything we can through it to accrue points, also through many websites which don't otherwise take AMEX. Gained £300+ of Nectar points through mostly using that for payments through PP so far this year - means my kid and family can have an amazing Christmas even through all the furlough and downtime.

Have to say the few times I used Prime this year (30 days free) I can see me using that going forwards (able to justify cost) for quite a bit of the convenience purchasing which would otherwise go through ebay/PP.

Paypal meanwhile remain the only debit card provider I have had to fight over £30.

Disputed payment for three mobile topup a month or so ago, I would have disputed before it cleared but their own systems dont allow so its on them if they have now lost the ability to reverse it. They say because 2FA is enabled its impossible, but it was a paypal debit card transaction which works like any other debit card, no 2fa etc. for that. There was also around the same date an attempted very large transaction.

Banks are light years behind PP.

I get an email notification for every transaction on PP, have 2FA, my bank doesnt even offer (proper) 2FA, and I have to manually check statements for transactions.

Has anyone tried the new Authy linux Beta app for desktops, any serious bugs or show stoppers?

If anyone is interested i tried it on Ubuntu and it works with paypal , if you try it make sure you go through the settings and make sure your keys get backed up otherwise you will need to phone paypal to get switched back from an authenticator to sms text.

I don't understand why they don't have a option at login between an authenticator or the sms text as people use paypal on multiple devices and a authenticator app is not always convenient to install...

They do, at least when I've just gone onto the mobile site when it gets to the auth page there's a "Try another method" link which offers me the option to get an SMS instead of using my authenticator app.

Only tried from desktop and even if i boot a live disk to make sure it not looking for authy it still only offers the auth page , i'll try again in a few hours in case it some type of time out thing?

A solution is the paypal debit card, however you have to have a business account now to get one, but recently I noticed when using my paypal debit card, it has started asking me to login to paypal, which defeats the purpose of the card, I assume I wouldnt be expected to do that in a shop face to face, but on the internet now even for food shopping it has started asking me to login, which of course then needs authy as well.

For anyone who isnt a big name retailer, since they get hacked so often I use revolut's virtual one time use debit card which is only valid for one transaction.

Given the amount of junk on the play store, I have never trusted google's ability to maintain safety on the chrome store, I legit now think its safer to only install extensions directly from gibhub repo's because the lack of auto updating kind of protects you from auto updating to rogue versions after extensions get sold.

I deleted my account but I can't remember why.

ahh yea my name on their was "arknor ocuk" and they wouldn't let me change it to my real name even if I sent photo ID etc so I just closed the account.

I had been using it for years linked to my bank account so they surely see from that... my real name or have me proove it with a picture of a bank card but nooo.

I used to use PayPal an awful lot, but since eBay changed over to Apple Pay or whatever it uses now, I haven’t used it all really. I always viewed it as very much an eBay thing.

Wonder how much other business they really get, without eBay what is the point in it?

I had thought ebay was transitioning away from paypal, and, 2020 was intentionally finding& purchasing with paypal vendors, because pp have a (limited) free returns option,
but, seemed to me, ebay rolled back, and over last year haven't had to filter sellers to find those still offering paypal

If paypal increases charges, can't but believe that will soon impact other ebay services too, though ...
but like the lorry drivers Boris will say it's covid's fault, not brexit

Can paypal do bank transfer payments to people without a paypal account, I remember it being spoken about a few years back but i've not heard anything about it since?
