heads up with netflix

Why would it be illegal.
It's paid for and we aren't circumventing copyright.

It's against user t&c(or at least I would have thought, not that I've read t&cs)

Actually you are accessing content for which you have not paid. By the same logic is it then ok to torrent tv shows from america before they air over here - after all, I pay my sky subscription and they will be on sky at some point so why wait?

no, because netflix get your money, sky will not if you get it via torrent

Sky still get my money whether I torrent the show or not -as stated I still pay my sky subsciption. To keep it a like for like comparison for arguments sake I am refering to shows that will air in America and on Sky.

Just no. You don't pay for the American network. I do pay for Netflix, Netflix has also designed I specifically so that I access the site depending on why my location is, with one account..

So it's nothing at all like your example.
Torrent is also clearly copyright infringement, this isn't.

It's more like buying something in America and shipping it over as its cheaper. Which I do resonable often.

ok, so for arguments sake then, if you take your sky viewing card to the states, plug it in, will you get the american sky channels or will it reject your card?
if i take my netflix login details to america and type them in, will i get rejected from the american site, no, it will just log me in.
therefore, my subscription covers me to view any netflix content depending on my location, your sky viewing card does not.

The reason that you can only acess specific contect depending on where you live is because netflix do not have the rights to air the show/film in your country - same reason that youtube block content depending on county.

So what you are doing is taking content for which netflix do not have a license for showing in your country. Which does actually boil down to copyright infringement.

anyways without causeing an argument I'm pretty sure that if it was all above board then you wouldnt be breaching Netflix T's&C's Copyright is a very grey area and will probably never be clearly defined.

I tihnk you hit the nail on the head there - you cannot and therefore it is in their T's&C's access the content for which they only have a license to air in America.

but 99% of the content is availble on dvd in the uk, so how does that work?

i get where you are coming from, i really do, i just dont get the torrent/sky argument, as torrents are illegal full stop, and your sky card only allows you to access stuff in the uk, even if you take it and your skybox abroad.

Ok, torrent/sky argument aside.

99% of the content may be avialable on dvd in the uk but that doesnt mean that netflix have the rights to air it over here.

It really doesnt bother me that people are curcemventing the netflix login I was more trying to discuss how ambiguous copyright infringement can be.

Stealthy works but it's so cripplingly slow it's useless. So slow it wont even load the Netflix main page properly. Not sure what people are on about regarding Lovefilm. I've been checking their catalogue quite frequently and it seems to be decades more up to date than Netflix.

I've followed the instructions re DNS setting and cannot get it working on PS3, cannot for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong......

I've changed the DNS settings on my Belkin router and PS3 but the PS3 Netflix is still the UK one.

I'm probably doing something stupid.......

You have to set up a US PS3 account, remove your Netflix account from your PS3, sign into the US PS3 account and so to the store and download the Netflix app from there ...(not from the UK store)
Once done sign in to Netflix with your normal account and you should be good to go.

As for the Netflix vs LoveFilm debate, for me the quality of both picture and sound is so much better on Netflix, lots of stuff is in HD and 5.1 where as LoveFilm offer nothing in HD :(.

Worked for me merely by changing the DNS on the PS3 itself.

Got it working on my Mac Mini and laptop using Firefox/Stealthy.

Works a charm although the quality is not great, the UK version is much better from a picture point of view which is frustrating as the US content is great.
