Can someone please recommend me a gaming headset with mic that is easy to get hold of (so either from OcUK or one of the other good UK online stores). I have read through this forum quickly and it seems people here are against headsets with mics, and say got for a proper headset and just get a seperate mic, but i need one thats a combination. I don't mind if sound quality suffers a bit because for important stuff (such as watching movies) i have a proper set of speakers, I just need a good headset for PC gaming with a clear sounding mic and for no more then £50. I can stretch my budget a little if there is something that is realy a step up in quality, but as i said i dont need perfection i just need something usable that wont hurt my ears after wearing for 4 hours, and wont make me sound like i am in a wind tunnel on voice comms.

Not really I don't think. I use a desk mic I bought down at the UK's largest supermarket chain, works fine for gaming and it is not like I am recording songs with it.

Ive already recommended these in another thread 2 mins ago so ill repeat :)

Creative Fata1ity headset.

Detachable Flexible Mic, plugs in via a 3.5mm jack on the left earpiece Why detachable it' only use is a headset, you don't see cars with detachable wheels
VERY clear sounds + Mic pickup Compared to what, a tin can?
VERY nice base. It comes with a base to stand it on, very interesting!
VERY ComfortableAs it weighs nothing, so are the hadphones that came free with my tape walkman
Long Cable Not bad, useful for around the pc
Inline Volume + Mute slider Could be useful actually
Looks very nice Important to be able to see the quality of the headset when at your pc gaming online.
Comes with a stoage bag (faux leather?) OMG it'l match the man bag
Edit - EXTRA fattt111ytytyy fps and e-peen

Try some headphones and your ears will love you forever. Have a look up for some cheap Goldrings and a separate mic, they will be better for games and the ability to listen to music and movies.

Goldring DR150s and a Zalman ZM-1 clip on mic :)

It's the same mic zalman pair with thier gaming headsets, and is meant to be rather decent (I haven't been able to test mine yet as my laptop is a bit dead :(), and cost me a whole 6.99 plus postage from another UK online retailer :)
Goldrings are available for about £40 so that ties into your budget.

I have those creatives [bought them a few years ago when I needed a replacement quick] and they're hideous in comparison, absolutely hideous. The mic works fine, but thats the best part about them. The sound is lifeless, the bass over the top, saturated and boomy, and I never ever use them anymore; they're relegated to the family, it sounds like you're sitting with pillows round your ears you lose that much; and they're not amazingly comfortable either.

Once you get good headphones and a decent mic to use, if you have a decent soundcard the clarity level will be amazingly different, and you wont want to go back.

I have no idea how decent my sound card is compared to proper ones like creative, but the one got is a SupremeFX II 8-CH Audio, it came with my asus maximus formula and goes into a pci-express x1 slot.

One question I have, does using a clip on mic pick up more external sound then a headset mic that would be closer to your mouth?

The SupremeFX isnt amazing, but better than some of the stuff out there. You'll still get better sound from the better headphones, just not quite the full potential, but will still sound a whole lot nicer overall than the Creatives. :D

The zalman clip on mic should be roughly the same as a headset mic (as it's used on the Zalman headsets anyway) but generally they're not completely omnidirectional either, so shouldnt pick up everything outside.

Well after looking around I couldnt find many of the usual online stores i trust selling clip on mics, the only one that did was selling them for £25 and brands I dont know about, ontop the cost of some headphones its a bit pricey so i think I am going to stick to getting some headphones with build in mic. I may not get the sound quality that the goldrings have, but if i want amazing sound (like when watching movies) I have my speakers for that.

Currently I am thinking about the gamecom stereo headsets that overclockers sell, they are quite cheap and I have read they have above average quality.

You can't beat a decent boom mic though less ambient pickup and always the same distance to the mic.

I used to use an xbox one headset modded to USB over the top of in-ear sound isolating headphones. I've gone off this setup slightly after receiving Shure SE110 as replacement for the much more dynamic E2C. Plus there's the on going cost of the ear foams.

I'm not sure there is an over-ear best of both worlds equivalent though.

Get the Medusa 5.1 ProGamer, fantastic quality sound and mic, btw its sterio :D ive had my fair share of headphones, from cheap 5 quid ones to about 50ish and from my experience headsets are far better than ones with mic stands, the one i had was around 12 quid Trust i think it was, was terrible, the quality was so poor i threw it out and ordered the medusa (my soundcard is the 7.1 Audigy).

Your hatred for all things headset related gets boring :/ and its ironic that you recommend to get the cheapest crap microphone :P Youre obviously fussy about what goes into your ears but you dont seem to care what you make other people listen to as you speak to them lol

I cant stand listening to people with crap microphones :(

It works well enough for my brother. I will be getting one once my desktop mic finally gives up the ghost, as it's currently held together by hair clips and masking tape ;)

The sound you hear is far more important than the quality of listening to some randoms voice online, or do you like to think long and hard about the bass response from a gamers voice?

You may be tired about my ramblings over headsets but you could just click back and ignore. They are true though and there are plenty of converts out there and on here who agree ;)

Like the Zalman, I'm pretty sure the Speedlink elara is the same microphone that goes into the Medusa line of headsets. Unless you go with something derived from aviation headsets, like the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 (i.e. serious cash), the microphone quality isn't all that.

I have to wonder though... if all headsets are so inferior to regular stereo headphones from a decent manufacturer... why doesnt someone make a decent headset using decent headphones and a decent boom mic? Its not as if there isnt the demand for it!
