Purely out of curiosity, is someone able to offer a definite explanation as to why it only seems to be Ford that offer this feature? I keep reading about Ford owning the patent to their Quickclear technology but this seems to be uncertain.

For reference, I'm talking about screens with the actual heating elements embedded within the glass, not heated wipers or pre-heating blower fans and whatnot.

Anyone? :)

There's a company out there that retrofit them too. Saw it come up when someone wanted to strip their car for the track but wanted some way of clearing the screen.

I did wonder this. One of those toys that certainly is very useful!

Had these on my old focus, they were great except for the fact that I used it in combination with the hot air blower when there was snow on the windscreen (I thought it might be fun to watch it melt the snow, realized shortly after that this was dim) and it resulted in a crack along the bottom of the windscreen.

But for clearing frost and mist, its was fantastic. Much faster than waiting for the engine to heat up enough to allow the blower to produce hot air.

I had it on my '00 Focus and it was a little slow to get going but worth having nonetheless. The one on my '54 Mondeo seems to work better but better yet is the powerful fan and dedicated fan button to direct everything at the windscreen at max power. The heating system in general just seems way way better in the Mondeo.

If you're trying to save pennies and have the A/C off and all of a sudden see your windows are misting up, quickclear is great for getting rid of the mist.

I used it all the time in my old car like people say for demisting more than anything but you don't half miss it when you haven't got it!

Just glad this winter wasn't as bad as the last one!

Heated front windscreen is great. Winters are a joy, getting into the car and being able to pull off the drive straight away, it's funny watching everyone else in the street scraping the ice of their windows. Then they look at me and think I'm about to drive in my car without de-icing, then with a flick of the windscreen wipers beautifully de-iced windscreen with no need for scrapers or nasty chemical sprays :)

A friend of mine has one fitted to his 205 Rally car because he has no heater. In fact it's his third one...they seem to be more prone to cracking for some reason.

I love it on the wife's Mondeo, particularly with these recent icy mornings :) They come on automatically below 4-degrees, so I don't even have to press a button :p
