Heating on in August!!

Glad we had the duvet last night. I had forgotten how quiet things are when you close the windows!

i think i might put the duvet back on the bed for tonight, it was damn chilly overnight.

know what you mean about the windows, had the fan turned off for the first time in weeks too. you could hear a pin drop (or more likely the cats hooning around the house).

but no, not even close to putting the heating on though.

our heating came on this morning which means the temp must have dipped below 15 degrees. Its cold today though :(

25 is perfect! I'd love it to be like that 11 months of the year, and then just 1 month of cold crap weather.

Yeah, not looking forward to winter... :(

~25 during the day and <20 at night for most of the year would suit me fine. Don't care about rain, sun, storms or anything, just decent temperature.

Then a couple of months of cold and snow - long enough to get some fun out of snowy weather, but short enough that it's over quickly.

So... pretty much exactly the opposite temperatures we get around the year. :p

It is 13C here and the heating is on. This is August but feels like October/November. Must see what the shares od Centrica are...

Ban. My sister should be banned too, as she had the heating on during nights... in July! (she's in Manchester). I'm no eco-warrior, couldn't care less about the environment, but in my house, the heating stays off between March and October.

Here's my rough guideline:

Indoors:

22+ too hot
18 - room temperature at rest in 1 layer
13 - working out at the gym
10 - about right for me to sleep
0 - heating comes on

Outdoors:

22+ in the beer garden
15 - still ok to sit outside, café, theme park etc still in 1 layer
10 - still 1 layer if active / coat if inactive
0 - put coat on
-10 - add gloves to coat

People are hot-desking around me at work at the moment and I'm getting into arguments with some of them as their idea of room temperature is 27. They've been asking me to close my window, but I'm not going to budge if the H&S thermometer thinks that 18-21 is about right. Aggressive on my part I know, but just pull on a jumper if you think that 24C is too hot?!

Comes on when it's <15? That's like most of the year. I don't envy your heating bill!

Heating bill is small, well insulated house with efficient boiler. Gas bill is actually in credit iirc as well. Thermostat is set to min 15 over night and 18 during the day and we leave it like that all year round, no point messing around with it.

Means nothing, you could have a whopping great direct debit.

At the end of the day it's your money so keep the house at whatever temperature you like, but I just have the heating off for half the year. Would rather wear a jumper than spend money on heating to stroll around the house in a tshirt.

Having a thermostat in the flat would have helped though, all I could do was set a timer for when boiler was on or off so settled for an hour each morning over winter.

Good lord, its still warm enough to have the windows open all night. I'm sitting here in shorts and I'm still too warm. Guess it depends where you live, on the south coast here. Was in the west country a week or two ago, blimey it was cool. Even had to put a sweater on once or twice. Havn't done that for months.

Over the last year I have spent 10 a month on gas for water and heating

It's a small house and the plasma TV htpc etc heat the living room in minutes
In the computer room is the server, tower, and 2 big dell ultrasharps. These get very hot and also heat this room in minutes

Unfortunately the electric bill isn't so small

I will admit to feeling the cold a little today, the heater was set up from 16 in the car to 20, the house had a slight chill, never heating territory though.

I will eak out another 1.5 months I hope before I consider turning the heating on, but lets face it summer is drawing to a close

Yes quite but you've chopped out the part where I say the bill is small, so in context it means quite a lot.

Our heating is probably off for more than half the year.
