My overclocked amd athlon xp was much hotter than my new overclocked C2D. However temps seemed more consistent/gradual on the xp. With the C2D temps (at least reading individual core temps) they are idle 37-39C then jump to 42-49C then rise to 52C max on load with dual cpu stress test, with the stock cooler. Soon as load is released they return to 39C.. wierd.

My overclocked athlon would sometimes see 59-60C with a massive copper cooler (although it wasn't lapped and looked fairly rough on the base). Bear in mind though that this was near the very max I could get the CPU, and I think the C2D has a long way extra to overclock, so in that way, perhaps it isn't actually that much different. On stock, the athlon rarely got to 50C on load.

Thanks for your help, I think I will go for a new proc cooler might even see
what it would cost for water cooling but that is a big might.
If I stick with air then a new heatsink and fan, what the best air cooler for the dual 4200+ from OCUK.

thanks
