With this heat im sure you are seeing temperatues higher than usual but my concern is about the 8800gtx. I have recently cleaned up my pc properly and have have moved around it in such a way that the back of my pc vents out through my window. I also have a rotating fan inside my room to keep things cool but whenever i play a heavy duty game, the temperature spikes and reaches up to 100C. I know 8800 runs hot and im fine with it but there comes a time that i see significant decrease in gaming peformance followed by a greyed out monitor screen which just confirms that yes gpu is too hot.

I was wondering if any of you guys are having a similar problem with heat or have had in the past, then what did you do or would suggest to circumvent this annoyance.

My gpu is clean no dust on fan, cpu temeperature is within normal range.

Just to add that i run a dual montior setup and sometimes i have a movie running on one screen while a game on the other but not always.

Thanks in advance.

try adding few bags of ice on top of your pc, that should cool the temperature down. hehe j/k, my pc is running ok.

Think my graphic card in laptop actually died last night :x

i am getting dots like :: but about 4 times bigger all over my screen on laptop when it boots in dos and into windows...but if i run it in safemode there not there any one know what this could be?

well thanks for your replies even though some of them were /cough strange :P.

Surely it's not that my gtx had its day in the sun, i mean runs great on cool days.

Just to point out, im using riva tuner and running a custom profile with 100% fan speed.

I cleaned out the fan on my laptop last night and temps dropped ny
30 degrees! Huge amounts of dust in there!

PC wise, my 8800GTX was running around 95 degrees mark recently so the ambient air temperature has its part to play. So long as you have good airflow i think you'll be ok!

My PC is getting a thorough de dusting tonight !

Use an open case when playing games and if still bad stick a desk fan next to the pc that should hold stable to play game ot two. Not ideal or pretty but cheaper then going water cooled lol:p

Open door case is working for me too. When playing Witcher my 8800 gt reached 90 degrees with close case and crushed every now and than. Now about 5 degrees cooler and more stable.

My temps have gone up abit on mine last few days, taken the fan door thing off on my Cooler Master stacker 832 and both of the side panels and have also got the fan in my room on full blowing at me and my pc, seems to have helped

My 8800GTX threw in the towel the other day, warm day in my room, tried (for a laugh) ArmA2, all settings on V High. Insta-black screen, couldn't get anything to display, though G15 screen was functional. Reboot, graphics card bios text corrupt and coloured specks, as described by D18241 above throughout the motherboard bootup, wouldn't reach Windows. :(

XFX also thinks it's gone. For a laugh, ha. =(

Was on open case policy, 'dusted' it fairly recently. =) S'all good though, got an upgrade now.

things are looking ok at present, CPU cores are around 40-45 degrees during the day and 4770 is holding around 55 under load.....GOD BLESS YOU 40nm!

Yep. I was waiting for a thread like this. Am getting a bit worried about my 9800gt.
On a normal day with fan speed at 50% it idles at ~57-60oC but atm with the same fan speed it idles at ~66-68. So i currently have the fan speed at 55% and it idles at about ~64-66C :(
CPU temps are idled at around 42, 42, 37, 44. grr.
Then again i am running an XPS 420.

Damn hot wether, wouldn't mind a bit of tropical rain ;)

I tried "open door" technique but it looks out of place so i decided to dig up some of my cooling stuff from here and there and found a case cooler (on OCuk but can't remember name). Cleaned up some dust on the card, re-arranged my sound card and made room for the case cooler. GPU at 73C idle before it was 80C. Working on word for my report so don't know how it will go when i play a game:(.

water cooling seems like a chore so i doubt im gonna go that way but tried to find something like a portable pc air conditioner, found one on google but not sure if its good enough. Someone went through a lot of trouble to modify his airconditioner and hooked it to his pc. Try googling it, its with images, unbelievably convoluted but kudos to the person who did it.

My temps have raised a bit, the CPU fan has to turn up more often. I've intalled 2x 120mm fans at the front of the case, seems to have done the job, and I cant here them.

BUT, I've ordered an ATI 4890, currently looking to run it with the stock cooler - How hot and loud will this be? till I find a Accelero Twin Turbo, I can't see one in OCUK =[
