Heatwave

my 4850 idles at 40c and under load about 65c, my PII 940 idles about 42-44, under load about 52-55 , so the 4850 isn't to bad but the 940 as got a lot hotter.

My PC is cooking, my dual 4850s which are 0.1v overvolted on the stock coolers were crashing the PC out cos of the heat. Ive now taken them apart and replaced the TIM with AS5 and so far its been fine. Might be worth a try, CPU is running hot too, but its ok I would say, not going over 75oC so given its at 1.412v on air thats not bad :).

Arclite you could do with a larger case fan (the one bolted to the case below the PSU). Looks like the holes are for a 120mm fan but you should get a ruler/tape measure just in case.

Are there any fans in front of the drive bays on the right?

Nope nothing on front, just rear and side case fan. I guess thats a start, would get some fans and see if that makes a difference.

On a side note, i made some changes and vcore is now 1.32V.

Since a thread like this has popped up thought id ask if anyone knows what temps a 7900GS should be running at..

Currently im at 71 degrees at idle, But a few months back when I last fired up the last remnant on all low settings it stays around the 105-110 mark. Is that normal?

Noticed that the heatwave has caused my GPU to start heating up, not just by 5-10 degrees.. but over 40 million oC I kid you not! :(

Heh blatently a bug, but nawr noticed minor heatchanges, CPU is up by 10 but GPU hasn't changed too much.

nevermind the GPU I can't sleep in this heat!
was up till 4am, decided to take a timelapse of the sunrise, DISASTER, the shutter in the camera broke, needs to be sent for repair! If we had normal weather I'dve been sleeping, the camera wouldntve broken =p

Ontopic: I've got my 4890 and I'm very pleased with it, its not too loud with the stock cooler, XFX card, havent touched overclocking yet but the card is sitting at 59°c Idle

I have the same problem with my 8800GTX. My fan does not spin up as the heat goes up. I sorted it by installing Rivatuner and using a custom fan profile to increase the fan speed linear with the card temp.

Check to see if your fan is speeding up, if not, its a sure fire resolution!

You case cooling is a joke.

120mm rear and 120mm front is all that is needed.

You complain about hot temps and yet you have no front fan?:rolleyes:
