The reemergence of TB is truly scary. 100 years ago TB accounted for around 1:7 of deaths from all causes.

And drug resistant strains are on the rise.

It doesn't help that Asians (Even the nice ones) have a disgusting tendency to spit everywhere. (This is a major vector for spreading TB)

Public spitting should be an offense!

Giving my age away, I can remember riding trams and buses in London
in the fifties, that carried signs, NO SPITTING.
Probably on Underground trains too, but I couldn’t swear to that.

TB was still a major issue in the 50's.

My Parents went to work in Africa in the late fifties and they were not permitted to travel until they had been screened to ensure they would not carry TB to infect the natives.

I am not as old and decrepit as you! :D

But I can still remember the mobile X-ray units that would come to town every month or so and encourage people to be checked out with chest x-rays!

Yet another example of the wonderful care free world of wealth and prosperity that us baby-boomers grew up in! :rolleyes:
