Heavy landing in Airbus A320

I've no idea to be honest unless they just accelerated more slowly from Gatwick to save the engine but it's unlikely.

If he can get out of Cuba loaded on 5200 feet of runway with a lower air density then they certainly didnt need to use even 2/3rds of Gatwick.

5200 does seem very short. You have put me off that holiday destination ;) Not much room for error there:D

Its ok, landed there twice now and its fine, if you do miss the end of the runway, you have mangrove swamps and alligators to stop you :p

Talking of mad runways, I remember finding a cool little runway in the Himalayas that was on the side of a mountain with a 20' slope, landing was for small planes only as the back of the runway was a wall of the mountain, taking off was fun, if you didn't get enough speed up you were buggered as you couldn't drop as there was not enough room to pull up or turn :D

Edit: Found it

found this cool picture whilst googling for mad runways :)

Nothing beats a good old Tailstrike either!!!!!!

I was in an Airbus taking off from Tunisia 4 years ago and the tail struck the runway. It didnt actually hit the tail itself as there is something underneath it that hits first and tells the pilot but bugger me it was enough to throw my heartbeat into oblivion

We went to Tenerife last year and prior to leaving a mate fed me a story about how pilots have to swing the plane round either left or right and then pretty much dump it down on the deck and throwing on the anchors as hard as possible due to a short runway.

Much to my relief we had the best landing I have ever experienced. I never even felt the plane touch the floor, no exaggeration. I'm an experienced flyer and have always been nervy about landings but I was seriously impressed with this one. That was on a Thomson flight.

Best landing I experienced was with Thompson. It was Palma in Majorca and we literally kissed the tarmac and rolled to a stop. Perfect. A similar landing occured in Bergamo, Milan with Ryanair a couple of years ago.

Coming in to land in Vegas a couple of weeks ago was fun, the temperature was about 110 degrees, the 747 was bouncing up and down like crazy!

That's probably the cowboy yank controllers putting you 2 miles behind a 744 and clearing you to land when you are number 9 :p

After watching all these videos I dont want to get on a plane to a cold landing in canada next year. what if its windy and snowing  I will get someone to knock me out lol

*never flown before. had helicopter lessons though

Amazing, thanks for the post OP.

Full credit to the Pilot and ATC, Scuzi, your job must be both fulfilling and stressful. Makes me feel a lot safer on planes, but then i'm not a nervous flier.
