********** Hell!!

Sounds like a neat party trick.

I was on a river in France once, where there was some sort of gas built up in the dirt bed of the river, the fella taking us around smacked it a bit and lit the water. It was pretty impressive and it helped us to take our minds off the fact that he stank of BO.

Yeah it's bloody awful but the politicians want the numbers to look good for their term so they're taking the short term bad option and destroying our country/side. Next thing you know there will be a group of 10 teenagers with tourettes cropping up in wales somewhere.

Oh, but we're in a recession and need growth!! Shove this growth right up your **** Davy C.

I think they've decided the risks of future seismic events can be lowered by following strict procedures.

decided what the man with the money told them more like. Putting explosives in the ground and hoping the gas goes up the tube is bad practice. Even Mr BP can't tell me otherwise. Hell you'd think these oil sharks and politicians were all in line with the devil or something. Self interested pr***s.

There's absolutley nothing unsafe or damaging about fracking, provided it is done in line with the relevant guidlines. Pretty much like every other industry in the world that has ever existed.

I would welcome the occasional 2-richter "earthquake" (negligible minor tremor, of which there around 1million globally per year) as a quite exciting addition to our fairly mundane environment.

Less carbon output than oil and coal. Probably less carbon output than the manufacture, transport, installation and maintenance of pointless wind turbines. Relatively speaking not that bad for the environment. Cheaper, cleaner automotive LNG may be well placed to replace petroleum-based fuels in the future.

Bring it on I say, if it's economically viable of course.

Also:

"Even Mr XXXXX can't tell me otherwise"

Clearly unwilling to listen to alternative opinion (especially from those who know better) and enter into sensible debate. Will not change opinions regardless of merit. Probably votes labour.

BBC link shows isolated cases local to a badly managed fracking site. Not representative of the whole industry.

I predict something will go horribly wrong causing a massive environmental disaster, then the government will conduct an official inquiry costing £1 billion and produce a list of "lessons learned" while no-one in government is punished for green-lighting this.
