Helldivers 2

Anyone using the spear?

I tried it last night and it seemed pretty potent, but it seems a bit flakey getting a lock - although I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong,

Sometimes, but I prefer the Quasar Cannon.

The lock on teh spear is a little flakey, it only locks on to specific weakpoints of big enemies. Doesn't work at all on smaller enemies, it's a giant killer.

Yeah think the Spear lock on issues is listed in the “known issues”.

The Sickle and Quaser need hard nerfs. There’s no need to use anything else when you have these, and their lack of real ammo constrains mean you can call them down at the beginning of the game and just be constantly lethal.

I prefer the PLAS-1 Scorcher to the Sickle for the bots. Sickle is really good vs the bugs but some of the heavier units like the Hive Guards do take a lot of putting down.

The Quaser is kinda like the pre-nerf railgun, just with a longer cooldown between shots. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets hit with the nerf stick soon.

I was using the scorcher but then I unlocked the Dominator.

I switched to this as it has the medium armor penetration.

Depending on what others user I tend to take the grenade launcher if everyone else is using the cannon as then we still have away to close the bug tunnels easily.

For the bots I will take the cannon as its the best thing for taking down the Hulks\tanks.

I think the Sickle is strong, but not completely broken tbh, it should maybe overheat a little quicker and have less charges available, so it's a bit more risky to use. I think the Quaser is in a good spot really, that charge up time really holds it back compared to the Recoilless Rifle and EAT, and balances out against the unlimited ammo. I quite like the Scorcher, it just lacks ammo, especially compared to the Sickle!

Now the game is consistently crashing when someone calls extraction. I've uninstalled this game now, total waste of time playing a 40 minute mission and then it crashes. This was the first game I purchased in years and it will be the last.

I would agree on the Quaser.

I was using it in a pinch earlier and when you are getting overrun the charge up time seems to take ages so need to switch to stratagems or fall back.

Generally if a team leans to hard into the Quasar it tends to weaken them in other areas, although the ability to pair it up with the laser guard dog backpack and Arc shotgun is somewhat overpowered - I'm a bit on the fence on the backpack situation with it - I think maybe it should come with an additional "cooling" backpack with the cool down time without slightly increased from where it is currently and the cool down time with a bit quicker (also would add a nice bit of variation where it isn't just a copy and paste of the rules with the other backpack fed weapons - being able to mix and match stuff up in games like this is generally one aspect which separates them games which tend to die fairly quickly when they have little potential outside of cookie cutter loadouts).

I was using the scorcher but then I unlocked the Dominator.

Might be my imagination but feels like the Dominator is behaving slightly different with this patch - feels a touch heavier than before trying to get the reticle on target and slightly less accurate which kind of sucks if it is a tweak that way as it makes it a bit more random rather than requiring skill to apply its damage. The game felt a touch laggier last night than it did before the patch but might have been my internet connection not played enough to be sure.

Since the update the game is more buggy for me. Didn't really have an issue before other than having to alt tab each time the launch the game to make it fullscreen. Since the update I still have to alt tab but now I get audio bugs. One game I only had character voices coming out of my left headphone and now I've just had a game where player voices didn't play at all. Its a bit boring without all the screaming and propaganda quotes :p. Game also freezes on exit at times now.....

Caved and bought HD2. Don't usually buy games until they're under £15 odd.

Only played a few rounds. Had to launch an ICBM. Got quite intense in places and a lot of running about not knowing where to go.

Had one lock up. No big deal. One respawn was in the middle of a big group of bots, insta-death. :)

Not too difficult to just jump and play. Really enjoyed it.

I've seen a few people say it's more buggy since the latest patch, but for me it seems a lot better. I've had way less crashes and other weird things happening

No crashes today or yesterday, though I dropped out of a game during the latter as Steam seemed to briefly go down. I can't say it's looking good yet as my friend has had plenty today, apparently.

Steam has a maintenance period on a Tuesday which affects the game, which is super annoying in this day and age albeit outside of the normal UK time zone.

Game is running like **** for me since this patch - last night thought it might be my connection but same today on different connections - feels like I'm running through mud all the time and everything feels slightly delayed and the physics is constantly messing up with dead bug bodies cartwheeling everywhere, etc. and struggling to move over terrain which was fine before.

If they keep screwing things up like this I don't think I'll be sticking with the game much longer.

EDIT: Haven't tried it on another system just in case something has changed on my gaming system but running latency mon getting around 20us with everything looking good.

Have you tried re installing the game?

I have had no issues with crashes etc since the last patch and I was playing for a few hours last night and again this morning for an hour and a half.

I did uninstall the game via Steam, re named the Helldivers 2 folder and re downloaded everything again. This kept my game config which most likely is stored else where.

Ah, this I did not know. Thanks for pointing that out.

Performance wise the game runs smoother now than it ever has, between updates and shifting to the latest Radeon drivers I'm now getting 112fps on the ship and around 75-90 in game, where previously it had been around 102 and 70-80 respectively.
