Hellgate: Londom demo thread

I do not know what gameplay preview footage you guys were watching, but I never thought much of it. I only started the demo download late so I have not yet too play it, but yikes it does not look pretty.

Finished all the quests I can see on the demo. Not blown away by this so far but it's got me wondering what the other classes are like, what stuff can be upgraded etc. I hope the areas are more varied than what is shown in the demo. The place seemed to lack atmosphere a bit.

not impressed one iota

I thought the game is far inferior to some much older games such as morrowind or vampire masqarade. Graphics are, I feel extremely lacking. Theres no real atmosphere, even down in the subways, which i admit, are a marginal improvement on the outdoor scenes, things could be much better. Remember roscoe street station from Max Payne now that subway level was real and very atmospheric, It seem the devs have really dropped the ball with this one. Extremely dissapointed.

Does anyone have any idea when the servers are back up?

Edit

OK I was being thick :/ Beta server is up.

I want the 30minutes of my life back I just wasted playing.

I just wanted to get to the end of the demo, so I just started running and hacking things in my way so it would end.

So, so dissapointed in this :( I spent so much time playing and loving Diablo1/2 and its add-ons, I was so looking forward to this and hoped it would play better than the gameplay video's show. But it doesn't.

The engine looks hugely dated - like they've taken an old game engine and just slapped new textures on. Everything looks square and out of place, rooms and sections repeat themselves endlessly. Why are chairs destructable, yet the wooden table they're next to not? Whats with the lack of physics and hit detection on world items?

And its clunky too. Hitting things feels disconnected and unwieldy. Characters don't move right, just feel like your floating around swatting flies. No safisfaction in slicing/smashing anything.

It just plays, looks and generally has the air of a very dated game they've tried to tart up. If this is the state of the finished game, they'll be lucky if many people buy it, let alone sub to it :(

My biggest dissapointment of the year.

I agree with the above comments, another huge let down in my opinion. First Tabula Rasa, now this. I wish developers would understand that clicking the mouse a few times is hardly more involving than pressing an auto attack button. Thats not innovation its just a cop out. Wheres the skill involved? And while I'm off wondering where that is perhaps someone could point me in the direction of a little thing called 'atmosphere' because I'm not feeling any. Throw in some cockney accents and some cardboard cut out scenery and we're supposed to be sucked in? The whole thing reeks of laziness. It deserves to bomb. Seriously, the developers are taking gamers for mugs if they expect us to pay for crap like this.

Bad game, looks, feels, and plays dated, and repetitive.. the areas all look the same, and as others said, lack atmosphere

haven't even bothered with this, even the concept is just awful. Swords, shields, London 2038, RPG/FPS with graphics dated from 1066. It's disgusting.

Just finished the demo section and didn't find it too bad.

Graphics are dated but playable, I think it had potential to be enjoyable online and would be quite interested to see more areas/weapons/monsters.

The graphics aren't as awful as some of you let on, they're adaquate and not the priority. But... I worry about the gameplay on offer here. Granted, there probably isn't enough in the demo to make a justifiable judgement, but I must agree with some of the comments above, it all feels slightly six years ago :(

It might improve as you get further into the game, but I can't see this living up to it's promises going by this demo. I'll wait for reviews and see then.

I think it's pretty good. The graphics aren't actually that bad, certainly better than the screen shots posted. I like the FPS mixed into an MMO feel. If they make it more hectic and action packed I can see it being very good. At one point I got a huge lure on myself and was shooting, dodging, lobbing nades etc for a good 30 seconds (felt like playing a game similar to pain killer). It's a shame I haven't experienced more of that yet.

I was disappointed to see it's pretty much instanced based. You only see other players in the quest areas. I can understand why but when the whole game seems to evolve around instances, it is lame.

Considering it's a beta, I'm reasonably impressed. I really like the idea of nightmare mode :)

I just gave some kid his leg back and now I have to go to bed, I'm not sure if i will play it again because the demo didnt seem to have a save feature and the tutorial was dire. I think it was trying to be funny.

Seems like an ok game, can someone tell me why its an mmo or somethign though? It played like a single player guild wars with weapons instead of bows and swords.

From what i understand, as thi is from a interview that i saw, hellgate is free ie no monthly subscriptions, however there is an option to pay a monthly sub for some xtra stuff, i havent played the demo yet, just wating for the beta servers to start so i can play the beta instead.
