going to be building my first pc in a week or two, and i am trying to some research done on all the components so i have a basic level of understanding, now i will be building a z97 build.

i have been looking for some pictures of z97 baords because i'm not too sure what all the connections do and what plugs in where and what everything is for.

so i'm basically asking for your guys help - any pictures of z97 boards and their connections highlighted / explained or if z79 are the same layout etc, anything that will help.

or if you guys could explain the connections and etc.

thanks in advance lads.

Once you have decided on a specific motherboard and you're awaiting its delivery, get on the manufacturers website and look for the manual (or wait for it to be delivered :D).

The manual will describe all you need to know, with pictures as well!

From the power supply to motherboard you have:

24 pin power cable (this is the big port usually situated on the middle right of motherboards)

8 Pin power cable (usually top left of motherboards)

Powersupply to other components:

PCI-Express power cables (Graphics cards and the like) 6 pin or 6+2 pin usually.

Sata power cables for harddrives and dvd-drives in general.

Molex power cables. Usually used for stuff like running fans at 12v and the likes.

Misc leads needed to be plugged in:

Front panel (on your case) USB 3 cable. Located near the 24 pin power.

Front panel buttons (Power on/off, restart button and LEDS) Usually located towards the bottom right of a motherboard.

Front panel HD audio connectors (usually along the bottom some where).

Sata connectors are the ports located bottom right/right ish of the motherboard. Used to plug in Hard drives mostly (lead from the hard drive to the motherboard directly).

Finally you have the fans. Most motherboards come with a CPU FAN and CPU OPT Fan (for CPU heatsinks with two fans) and 1-4 ish additional fan headers located on the motherboard in various locations. Populate them as needed.

Honestly there isnt that much to plug in, don't be panicking. Read your motherboard manual front to back and watch some youtube videos. It really simple to build a PC and just requires a bit of research and understanding, nothing major. Take your time, don't force anything and ask if you need help on anything :)

Plenty of space on a table and follow the mother board installation guide that it comes with, what case are you putting this into ?

a 750d mate.

Very nice case ... Make sure you take your time and route your cabling into the void and it will be a nice tidy build :)

A lot of the conections are easy to work out as they are specific for each bit of kit but if you get stuck then post photos and questions as there is always help on hand here :)

The only thing I would add to your build and the cost is low would be some exhaust fans for the top of your case to help with air flow ( its not a must have I have just always done it )

Looking forward to seeing it come to life :)

any recommendations on the fans mate, and would these go (case - fans then rad or case rad then fans on bottom of the rad?

if that makes sense.
