Hi All
I wonder if someone can help me.
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop and the HD has failed. Not normally a problem as i have bought another one and everything is fine again.
The problem i have now is how to get or see if any of the data from the broken drive is recoverable. I have bought a caddy for the drive but when i put in on the computer i can only see the 'recovery' partition (10gb) and i need to see the other one.
Is there any software which can look at the drive? i am sure i have used something before but for the life of me cannot remember what it is called.
Please help
Lee

Thanks for this
Problem is that it cannot see the drive so that when i run the programme my drive is not listed :(
Any ideas?

if the drive is not visible in the bios at all it may be the board thats bust, you could buy an idetical drive from the bay and swap them over... ive done it a few times

When i plug in the drive (in XP, tried it with Vista and 7 and does the same) i see in windows explorer RECOVERY E: but no F which is where the data should be.

When i launch testdisk i get the do you want to log etc which i select the bottom on (no log) and then press enter. It then goes to the next screen and onto Please wait .... and sits there forever.

This is where i think it is hanging.

Any more suggestions?
