Hey guys,

My friend and I are installing BF2 on VMware as you can run multiple instances on one machine.

His has installed fine and is able to run 2 copy's at once.

I on the other hand have opted to try this on my laptop.
I have installed 2 XP Pro 32bit VM's and BF2 is installed with patch 1.41 and 1.5.

When i try to load BF2 on either of the Vm's the screen goes black then 'crashes to desktop' (only the VM not the whole comp)

I have tried increasing the Ram allocated to that VM but no joy.

Here are the specs:

Original Laptop:
Intel T5870 Duo Core 2GHz
4GB Ram
Windows 7 Pro
Integrated GFX I guess (Intel GMA something)

VM Specs:

XP Pro 32bit
10GB Hdd
1gb Ram
Both CPU cores enabled

Is it not working just because of the fact its on a laptop? or is it an issue that can be fixed?
I would like it to work on my laptop as I can just close the lid and let it run without interfering with my desktop.
If you need any other details to come to a conclusion please just ask.

Thanks a lot.

Em

You have no chance of getting that working, the graphics functionality is too basic in VMware and as far as i've been able to tell (i was trying to do something similar to you with a much older game last year) all other Virtual environments.

I guess he wants to boost up stats or something by having a BF2 client running on the VM connected to a server, and then run his normal client as well and go around fragging himself or something.

Yep, most likely.

What you do is have 3 people.

Two on one team and the guy wanting the stats/points on the other.

One of the two is a medic, whilst the other is bait for the kill and quick revive.

So, kill, revive and repeat! - all the OP will do is revive and kill repeatedly (assuming this theory is correct)

PS: "Rogers" is quite (in)famous for it on all the BF games, gets to top rank with ease.

3D support is very touch and go using a VM and very slow. I have run WoW in one before (got about 20 fps on min settings :p) and also the old GTA. I can't imagine the intel GMA will help matters much neither.

Thanks for hte suggestions guys.

Im not trying to stats pad lol, im trying to start my servers.

BF2 requires 6 or 8 people for a game to start. Ifi can get 2 or 3 on the server and my friend can do the same, then our server will be up in seconds.

Besides i have no need to pad, im awesome :P

Running BF2 on Intel GMA is not a great idea, then there's the complications of getting it running on VMware on top. Does it work fine on your laptop without it being installed on a VM machine?

Yea the laptop can run bf2 at roughly 50fps, not bad for onboard gfx.

But with both VM's running the system barely runs at all. takes about 2 mins for the start menu to pop up after clicking it lol.
None the less i did manage to get them running.

But with the cpu power of the laptop, its not exactly a good idea lol.

dude! Give over, your trying to run this VM on a laptop!!!

EVEN if you get it to work, the heat will kill it eventually.
Stat padding has to have a live server = min of 6 players.

lol I have given up.

And as I said before, I'm not stat padding lol. I'm trying to get my server live...

OK, ill get my BF2 team populate the servers for you.

the way to a popular server isnt numbers its connection quailty, as the game is slowly grinding to a halt users tend to go to where the quailty is.
