Help! Blu-Ray Home Cinema System..

its a 475 with dab so yes. do you have a 4k tv or are you likely to get one along with something that can play 4k content? if like most people the answer is no, you dont need to worry about it.

Naa, I don't, I just bought a KDL50W829 and that is just Full HD. Don't think I'll be needing the 4K stuff for now, thanks.

I have an Onkyo TX-NR414 coupled with the Onkyo HTS528 5.1 speaker set. No complaints from me, been working flawlessly for over a year with Blu-Ray, SkyHD, FreeSat, Wii & Xbox.

Has Spotify built in too.

Instead of the Yamaha RX-V375, the Yamaha RX-V500D for the same price isn't a bad deal, right? Seems a bit newer, all inputs have banana plugs.

Can someone help explain what this 4K Upscaling stuff is all about? I mean, isn't the BluRay player I'm going to get meant to have these features? Seems like most of the Onkyo's have this, do I need it?

I may be wrong here but I think having 4k in the amp is a feature so that 4k can pass through the amp from a 4k bluray player.

It's quite a shame that the retailer I was going to get the RX-V500D is out of stock, I was getting it at just above the price of the RX-V375 too.

I've already made up my mind on the Tannoy SFX 5.1 Speakers, Holborn store is holding me one for tomorrow.

Do you think the Yamaha RX-V375 or Sony STR-DN840 would pair best with the Tannoy Speakers? Considering the Wattage of the AV/Speaker also OHMS of the AV/Speaker ect.. Everything considered.

Just out of no where I saw the Sony, and it looks quite slick, I also have a new Sony TV, but advise me on what would give best performance, thanks.

Sony STR-DN840: http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/av-receivers/str-dn840
Yamaha RX-V375: http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/rx-v375_g/?mode=model

Don't want to overpower the AV/Speakers by mismatching.

You won't be overpowering anything, and no need to even consider the wattage of anything, its both meaningless and pointless. Your best bet is to find somewhere that has stock of both and arrange a demo to see which you prefer.

From experience and other stuff, which would you recommend to go for? The Yam RX-V375 or Sony STR-DN840? I'll arrange a demo but hopefully I can hear the difference lol!

Depends what you want. Sony's as far as I am aware are a little harder to pair with speakers than the Yamaha equivalents, but do have more features. If you can't tell the difference between the sound then the Sony will probably be the better bet, but if you aren't interested in the network options, which I think you said previously, then the Yamaha is probably the one to go for.

Unless its changed, £300 max for speakers and av. The Tannoys were £150 I believe so £150 on the AVR.

My budget was £300 but I sold some spare kit I needed to over the bank holiday weekend so I can stretch to £350 all together lol! Not much, but hoping to get something better than my sony bdv-e3100 all in one I've had.

the tannoy's are £170 but can get it for £150 through vip, and hoping richer sounds can do a deal for £300 for both.

For slightly more you can get a denon x2000 for £250 , they used to be around the £500 mark and recently dropped from £300 to £250

I would save up a bit more and get a better amp?

I spoke to the Peter Tyson's rep and he said that it would've most likely been a damage in transit, the customer wouldn't have had it for very long as they have a 7 day returns policy. It comes with everything as it would've came new.

It's been fully tested.

So, it's the RX-V500D I'm looking for and I can get this particular one for £170 or £209 brand new.

What do you think about this damage to it? Should it still be ok?

Hmm, doesn't look especially damaged, just that ding on top. If it comes with a two year warranty it should be ok.

I need a decent Subwoofer Cable, which would you recommend? (I'm a big fan of Belkin, I think they do great cables at reasonable prices).

Do any of these look ok?

If you'd like to suggest something else, please do, I don't want to be spending over £10 for a Subwoofer Cable though.

Also, I'm not sure what sort of Cable comes with the Tannoy SFX's but if I wanted to upgrade the Cabling, what sort of thickness should I be looking at using?

Btw, I got the Tannoy SFX 5.1 Speakers with the Yamaha RX-V500D for total of £340.

Argh, I didn't plan on spending so much, I hope I'm not disappointed with my purchases.

It was that or the RX-V375 with SFX for £320 as Richer Sounds didnt want to take off more. If they had said £300 I would've bought it.

I then realised that the 375 didn't have HDMI Pass Through so sort of put me off.

It's all in place, the Yamaha RX-V500D from Peter Tyson eBay via offer for £190 and the Tannoy SFX 5.1 from Richer Sounds via VIP for £150.

Advise me here, I'm going on Holiday next Wednesday for a week, do you think something better will pop up during the next 2 weeks, or should I go for it now?
