Hi I'm looking to build a new pc with a budget of £1200ish
Never built one from scratch before only upgrades.
Will be used for gaming, general use and maybe cad, also needs to be future proof for a few years. My old pc drank a cup of tea and didn't like it!!
I still have monitor, keyboard, mouse so just looking for the tower, I don't want a huge thing or too flashy, just a mid tower with a bit of class.
Here's what I thought just not sure if it's all working together-
Product Name Qty Price Line Total
HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.98

Asus Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £191.99

AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8120 Black Edition 3.10Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £167.99

OCZ ZX Series 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £149.99

Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Midi Tower - Black £145.99

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Retail (GFC-00025) £124.99

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002) £89.99

Corsair Force Series 3 60GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (CSSD-F60GB3A-BK) £82.99

LG BH10LS38 10x BluRay-RW / 16 x DVD±RW Lightscribe Drive - Black (OEM) £69.98

Antec Kúhler H2O 920 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM2+/AM2+/AM3+) £64.98

G.Skill RipJawsX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-17000CL9D-4GBXL)

All help and advice welcome

all I can say is NO NO NO NO, throw the the spec sheet out the window and start again.

bulldozer out sandybridhe in, the i2500k even with half the cores wipes the floor with the 8150 let alone the 8120

cpu http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-358-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1859

mb http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-188-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990 (£125 after cash back)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-060-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 no need for the 2133mhz ram, 1600mhz is more than enough as you wouldn't see any real life performance difference

the his 6950 is now £250, the £200 was weekend only. get http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-042-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752 instead

you don't need 1kw psu even for xfire unless going tri-/quad xfire-x, 750/850w will be more than enough

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-000-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

save £45 and get the oem win7 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-127-MS

with the £45 saved from the os get the 120gb

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-021-CS

the crucial m4 128gb is the one of choice but is £150

blue-ray you want retail due to no softeware in the oem unless you have a blue ray playing software licence already.

hard disk if you can salvage the old sata disk from your current pc can use the £90 elsewhere or pocket it.

msi cashback offer details http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18338613

even if the cpu is more expensive the mb is cheaper(more so with the cash back) so it works out around the same cost asus crosshair(£192) + fx-8 8120(£168) = £360, i2600k(£240) + z68a-g65 g3(£150) = £390 - £25 = £365 you could go for the z68a-g55 g3(£125) + i2600k(£240) = £365 - £21 = £344

Spec looks good, I'd agree with fowler002 though - this week the 2700k OEM is actually cheaper.

Also, Wazz-1 if you enable trust I have something with might be useful to you!
