Help can't boot

Yeh it's possible although I did double check it. I've just left it to boot into windows startup recovery and it's made it through but now stuck. Will wait and see if it kicks into action again so I can run it.
Next thing will be memory then win 7 repair.

Well I'm still in Windows Startup Recovery.. it's incrediby slow but it just popped up with a keyboard language choice screen so it's working in a way...

Possible culprits:

1) SSD is on SATA600 PCI controller. Will try on SATA2 (mobo) instead.

2) RAM dodgy. will try running on 1 stick and reseating that one anyway.

3) This beta BIOS is rubbish and doesn't actually work with 970 cpu.

Ok. Interesting.

Gets into the System Recovery Options screen and I have a choice of recovering a windows install or restoring from an image.

The funny thing is that no OS is listed in the recovery list... so it's clearly not detecting my windows install at all. This is almost definitely something wrong with my SSD/SATA600 controller then I guess.

I'll go onto SATA300 now and see what happens. If no joy then win 7 repair disc i guess.

i've removed all my HDDs except for my C300 OS drive, which is now on SATA2.

even a windows 7 DVD boot won't start... just stalls on the "Starting Windows" screen with the logo warping away as usual, but doesn't actually get any further than that.

looking more and more like memory or CPU/BIOS issue.

ok cleaned out my ram slots and now running only with 1 stick installed (2gb).

with win7 dvd booted it now sees my win7 install, which is looking very hopeful.

that said when i try to get into the repair screen (that should follow) it just hangs again as usual.

any ideas guys? really clutching at straws here...

yeh still got my 920. very reluctant to have to remove HS, repaste etc though tbh... but i guess that's my last option. if it works with the 920 then this beta bios is a pile of rubbish.

when i boot with win7 dvd in and press any key to boot from it, it starts loading the dos-based windows screen but then moves directly to loading my main windows install on my C300.... makes no sense! why can't I boot into the dvd as I could with winxp etc?

ok so i've removed my C300 from the machine and the PC now boots properly from the win7 install DVD....

edit: as soon as i try to boot from the DVD again but with the C300 installed it just hangs again and won't get into the repair screen...

starting to think my C300 is the cuplrit.

Found another more recent beta BIOS called F13k that apparently fixes an issue with some SSD drive (OCZ, Sandforce etc.). maybe this will help. bit loathe to be installing all these beta BIOSes....
