Hi guys, I havent been upto date with PC parts since 4 years ago, and now im back in the business! But SSD's are still a mystery to me as all these controller chips confuse me .

So heres the story, Im using your average HDD as a boot drive and another for all the other stuff. I'd like to get two (or how many it takes) for a boot drive and one to store apps and games on while keeping one of my HDDs for extra storage.

In my mind I'd like to have a sub-100Gb for booting and a 128Gb+ for apps and games.

The only thing im worried about is life span and maintenance of SSD's. So what would you guys recommend?

+1 for the Crucial M4 it rocks so far.
bought a 64 gig then within 1 week changed it for 128.
gonna look to change again in couple months for a 256 or 512.

This isn't an issue for 99% of people...

For a desktop user running a desktop (non-server) workload, the chances of your drive dying within its warranty period due to you wearing out all of the NAND are basically nothing. Note that this doesn't mean that your drive won't die for other reasons before then (e.g. poor manufacturing, controller/firmware issues, etc...), but you don't really have to worry about your NAND wearing out.

From what I can tell, the fastest sub-80GB SSD is the 64GB Crucial M4 (Review).

How about a 120gb SSD for boot and programs and a big HDD for games and storage.

With many games commanding 10gb++ installs its a pretty expensive business keeping them on SSDs!

...Then again, i guess the installs are quicker if you dont have to redownload?
