Help - Confused :(

I could try and get some pictures, if that helps? :/

But I have a converter which goes two 6 pins on one side (females) and one 8 pin on the other (male)...So...I have the 6 pin PCI power cable in one of the 6 pin females and the 8 pin in the card?

Do you still need pictures? :/

I don't think I asked for pictures but if you want to upload some that's fine. I won't be able to see them until I get home tonight.

The card needs two 8 pin power cables.

You've plugged in one (6+2).

The other you're using the adapter for but you've only got one 6 pin cable plugged in and it needs 2.

At this moment in time you have 3 options as I see it:

1) Send the card back and get a more standard HD 6970 which only needs one 8 pin and one 6 pin. Or another type of card that will work with those connections.

2) Get a different PSU with two 8 pin power cables.

3) Use a cable like this so that you can provide the other 6 pin cable for the adapter assuming you have 2 free molex connectors.

Option 3 is the cheapest £2 fix and should hopefully work.

So what PSU could/should I buy that is kind of cheap but good??

Thanks for everyones help, Andy. :)

Did you read my post above?

There potentially a £2 fix for your problem.

Perhaps you should try that first before buying a new PSU, assuming you're keeping the card.

Ok thanks a lot. :)

Just have to figure out how to connect that now...haha (yes I'm very stupid when it comes to this sort of stuff) lol

Thanks a lot, Andy

8 pin from PSU to GPU that's one done.

2 x molex to 6 pin adapter + 6 pin from PSU both connected to the 8 pin adapter and that's the other one done.

I'll draw you a diagram when I get home if you need it.

I don't want to seem too dumb haha :P (although I really am when it comes to this stuff >.<)

I will upload some pictures soon, Just to show how I have it setup atm...:/

It could look like that one but not be it, though. If it says 6750 on the box then it isn't that 1 ^

A HD 6750 would look nothing like the card the OP has received and it wouldn't require two 8 pin PCI-E power cables.

Let it go.

I know what card the OP has, the OP knows what card he has and between us we've worked it out.

This thread would be a lot cleaner without all these interruptions ;)

Hi Andy.

From the last picture that you provided, the '6 pin free' part requires another 6 pin PCI-E connection from your power supply. Everything else is just fine. As your PSU doesn't look like it has another 6 pin cable then you'll need to buy the £2 extension cable. That extension requires you to plug in 2 molex power connections and then you can connect that 6 pin cable into the '6 pin free' cable you've listed on that last photo!

To summarise;
  • Buy this.
  • Plug the 6 pin from the cable above into the '6 pin free' extension.
  • Find 2 molex connections from your PSU and plug those into the slots of the cable above. A molex connection from your PSU will look something like this.
Hope that helps!
