Hi all.

I have recently just switched from Vista 64bit to Windows XP 32bit, got fed up of Vista :)

I installed everything correctly, drivers etc. I boot up CSS and it freezes 5 mins, it doesnt turn off the screen is just frozen and i cant do anything at all. I never had this problem with Vista. I have taken certain RAM modules out to see if that would make any difference but it did not. I have since installed vista again to see if the problem was recent but CSS played fine, so im back to XP now trying to fix this problem, I just do not know what can be causing it.

SPEC:

Mobo: Asus Striker II Extreme DDR3
HDD: WD 500GB
RAM: 4GB Corsair
GFX: 8800GTS
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 32bit.

Hope someone can help me out so i can solve this issue, its getting so irratating.

Thanks ;)

have you tryed updating xp????

In the process at this minute. All of my temps are perfectly fine ,so that rules out a heat problem, I dont get a BSOD as its just a freeze, so I doubt its memory related. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem caused by their sound card. Will update Windows XP, remove the sound card, try running the game then report back :D

Thanks for your help so far.

Have just taken the sound card out, updated Windows XP and the problem still persists. I am not too sure but had a feeling it could be caused by running XP 32bit on a DDR3 Motherboard.

What CPU are you using?

... bit of a shot in the dark this, but many moons ago I had this exact same problem with HL2/CSS on XP. I could play the game with no problem at all, then all of a sudden after a few minutes it would freeze completely and the only option was the hit the reset button. The solution for me was to install the Dual-core CPU driver from AMD (at the time I would have been on a AMD X2 4400+).

Failing that, is your Bios upto date on your mobo?

... pretty sure it'll be a CPU problem, so basically check for drivers and bios updates.

My processor is Intel Quad Core Q9550, it was overclocked to 3.8 but now I have set it back to default and i have not had any problems yet after playing two games, 1 hour or so. My mobo is also uptodate.

Il let you know how it goes.
