That company charge at both ends, once to look and again to give you data. Scary stuff though. e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC_RLy6hQow&ab_channel=HDDRecoveryServicesSorry to hear that
Was hoping pcb change would
Work for you
Never had to resort to professional data recovery
Do any of them do no data recovered no fee?
Would be even worse if its unrecoverable
But they still give you a hefty bill
Gave them a call and they have an additional upfront £50 fee if the drive has had any work already. As I said previously, John at Lazarus Data Recovery.

Well that's one lesson learned the hard way, ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DATA!
These days that's not usually possible, as the PCB stores calibration data relating to the mechanical part of the driveLong time so maybe 25yrs ago I had a drive with a pcb failure. I'd bought two identical drives at the same time and was able to swap the pcb and recover the data.
If it's anything worth saving then don't bother trying to do it yourself - especially as you're "not a techie".I am looking for a a tutorial to restore data from a crashed hard disk. Not a techie.
Thanks in advance

Using the company would be the next step probably, for now i am going to try to restore files from failed hard drive by myself, following this guide https://7datarecovery.com/blog/recover-failed-hard-drive/. In case this will not work, of course i will try to find someone who can do it for me.How valuable is the data, if it has any value at all then look at using a professional company, its very easy to make things worse when you dont know what you are doing.
