[Help] Hardrive problem when formatting?

Hey,

I have just purchased a new hardrive, this one to be exact.

It installed fine, it detected fine in the BIOS (as a third IDE master, I do not know if that is correct). When I go to install Windows on it I am unable to format the drive either fully or quickly. If I do a quick format I get some error message saying the drive is unable to be formatted, if I do the full format I get a BSOD about two minutes in.

This is the first time I have used a SATA hardrive. Can anyone offer any help?

Nope. It say's it is SATA I.

The motherboard only supports SATA I.

How can I do that?

Windows it not installed yet, it is a completely new hardrive. Which is why I was going to do it in the Windows installation menu's.

What are the details of your system

i take it you have a system that can get into windows, download and install this software, i know it is made by seagate but it works on wester digital drive aswell, download the disc wizard for windows and set up the drive as additional storage then restart your comp when its finnished and have a go at formatting it, this software works wonders on many hard driscs its worth keeping it

I should have made it clearer, the system cannot get into windows. The new drive is the only hardrive in it at the moment. So I cannot use that tool you suggested. As for the specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Venice) Skt 939,
Asus A8V-X motherboard,

The sata raid drivers. Earlier boards required this driver to be loaded at the point where after windows is inpecting your hardware configuration. Its a blue screen (hahaha) at the bottom it says press f2 for....and then it says press f6 to load third party drivers....

Thats where u press f6, wait a while and select the drivers you want to load from the stiffy.

Oh right.

Would I have to do this even if I am not running the drive in RAID?

It is a "RAID edition" disk, but I didnt know I had to run the drivers.

It say's I need a disk.

I did not recieve a disk with the hardrive :confused:

Normally on the older board you needed to load the raid driver irrespective on the newer boards you normally only have to load the driver if u want to run raid. Normally you have to make a stiffy load up disk yourself from the mb driver cd or u have to download from the manufacturer website.

I do not want to use RAID.

The board is new.

So what would cause the Windows Formatting thing before I install Windows to say there are errors, and also for me to get a BSOD during the full format?

Sorry had to shoot out. Its not about the raid its about the sata driver and really it a suggestion to try find a solution to your problem. I reakon its worth a try cos ive seen strange behavior if driver not loaded from not being recognised to poor performance to irratic behavior like u got.

But...I did not get any drivers with the hardrive...

They are motherboard drivers. U need to make a stiffy with the mb driver disk or get it off the motherboard website. I know it sound stupid, take one step forward with sata, but u need stiffy to get it to work.
